Very neat concept!
I do think controlling more than one ship was a tall order in practice, and there were some mechanics that could be communicated to the player a little more explicitly. I was initially very confused why the ships would stop responding for a while after I started repairing, or if the repair was working since the ship’s “broken” texture never vanished. It also seems like there’s a threshold for refueling that isn’t listed under the command.
I uh also somehow managed to catastrophically break the game my first attempt by sinking all of the ships offscreen haha ;-; … The game didn’t seem to think the game was over, and reloading would start me partway through the map with a texture below the ships covering part of the water.
The upgrades system that dynamically added commands to your library was neat, and I do think the base concept was cool even if there were some rough spots. I also really like the UI, and the character icons were really nice! I also love that the icons had different variants depending on the state of the ship / what they were up to!
I made it to the end with one ship xD I'll be honest it gets veeeery long in the end so we can easily get bored, it would have been more fun if I had not made all the trip with only one ship haha cause I would have more things to do except just refueling. It is pretty hard to understand at first too, idk why the blue ship is third place but the character on the left UI is in the 2nd place, it took me some time to realize, I also thought the goal was to not get damaged either my ships would sink, but in the end taking damage just did nothing, and the repair command wasn't doing anything (just got a UI with "repair in 10" and it also never dissapeared.
The buffs and the mechanic overall is a cool and fun idea, dealing with multiple ships and managing our way to the end is engaging, I would have passed on the reverse up and down 25% debuff tho, idk how I would have dealt with that with 3 ships lol, the random letters debuff was also frustrating but it the end idk it got pretty fun to deal with x)
Globally it took my half the run to understand what was happening, when we understand everything is does get cool tho so yeah I really think it's a fun idea that could work with a lot more balancing and instructions/feedback, probably a shorter level and maybe some other pickable small buffs on the way
I still had some good time, and it's look like a lot of work done for 10 days so it's pretty impressive.
I was super keen for another typing game after Signal Siege - and this one has an awesome concept. However it does fall short on a few fronts. Firstly it too me a bit to realise we don’t play by chaining commands. Eg. Instead of writing SS Frostmaul halt - a simple HALT will suffice.
However the problem is that which ship is the active ship isn’t super clear. Light on the active captain just becomes slightly brighter. Additionally the while the little portraits of the captains are cool and unique - the visual difference between the three ships is minor, so once you start steering the ships up and down the field its easy to lose track of who is who.
Lastly the game doesn’t seem to advance the progress bar up top after a certain point - and you can even click and drag the progress icons around.
The idea is super strong though and I think a typing command mechanic is worth revisiting sometime.
I had a similar experience to IncoherantStatic, also it seems like the UI is not scaling correctly.
For me it wasn’t scaled correctly in the window - but once I maximised to full screen it was fine.
I wonder if that's a non-uniform scaling issue then. as full screen is wrong for me too sadly! Perhaps it's a 16:9 vs 16:10 thing.
I do like the concept of the game a lot though. It's a lovely idea!
Yeah for context I was on a 16:9 at at least 1080 resolution. I would think 16:10 would be workable but just a bit cut off? Oh wait unless the typing area at the bottom gets cut off then thats no good.
had a lot of trouble with this ones control scheme, while interesting, it seemed that I had to like do "Pilot X ship" every time I wanted to do a command rather than have it stay on that ship, given how quickly the game moves, it seems its only really viable to play as one ship.
