As others have mentioned, there's a lot going on. I Think some additional UI to remind you which button is inventory etc. much like you did with the QWE attacks. Generally I'd say this is well polished. Dynamic music, solid menus and cards, moving backgrounds, but it does look like you ran out of time and had to use filler art. I saw the shop and was a bit confused why it just looked like a box. However, it's a game jam, so not a big deal when it comes down to things. I thought it would be worth mentioning that it broke my immersion for a moment though.
Like Atomion, I also started just spamming my attacks. I like the idea of the combo system, but I could never remember what those combos were. Maybe a key on the screen during battle, or even a system that shows the different combos you can create as you're typing them. For example, you might type WQ, and a graphic pops up with 3 options: WQWE WQQW WQEW, and as you type the ones that don't fit disappear.
Another combat related suggestion I have is to make the ! icons a bit bigger. I had some trouble noticing them, especially during the first boss fight. You might simply be able to scale them up, but maybe a small particle effect could help identify them visually.

Haha...I kinda get the battle mechanics. But I ended up just spamming my attacks and parries and hoping for the best. We don't have a choice in choosing allies, so it was kinda hard to strategize against certain enemies. I wish there were some kinda of indication for when the enemies are about to attack, so the players can have an easier time parrying.
Otherwise, the BGM, SFX, and Visual Design were so Well Polished for a 2-week game jam. I'm so impressed ToT.
thank you for your feedback!!!
Unfortunatly we didnt have enough time to balance the game so we went for what we could achieve in time(tho yes thinking bout it we shouldve let the player select the troop he is recruting thats a great point)
for the indication of the attack there is an ! Over the enemies indicating an incoming attack
thank you again!
Aa... There's a... lot to unpack... I have mixed feelings... Wow, this game is so developed that a player can have mixed feelings... Ha... ha....
For starters, great game. Combat is innovative; a take on rock - paper - scissors in a way (Weak to bow, strong to charger, you get the idea...). Hella immersive too. Space to parry and there's a crap load of enemies. You have to time it right or get hit.
In all honesty, I'm trying really hard to think of a game that has a combat system like this but (maybe it's because I haven't played enough games) I can't think of any. The closest this has reminded me of is Patapon, but I haven't played it and it's probably because it looks more artistically similar rather than combat like...
One of my gripes... I feel like bosses are a bit of a mess. And the freeze mechanic as well.
Bosses can have three rapid fire attacks, most of the time. But... that's not really choreographed well. I found that it was actually a bit stressful for me at times as it stopped being "Press space when you see exclamation", moreso "Will I have to press space 3 times because of (what is seemingly) RNG?" Couple this with how some bosses have underlings and it can quickly get out of hand.
(Granted, it could be deliberate that it's not choreographed at all and it's meant to keep you on your toes, but... )
Then freeze throws off timings so well. Initially, I thought it was a benefit to the team (more dps, less time for enemies to attack.) But I'm starting to secretly suspect it's actually a debuff. The sadder part is that there's no indication to show that freeze is about to wear off, so half the time I'm anxiously waiting for the exclamation mark to blink before I can parry.
Admittedly, I've come to rage because I've thought the game was somewhat unfair at times.
Don't get these critiques wrong though! It's still a very solid effort. Theme is a hit. Presentation and story was executed well, as well as the lore. This can actually be a release on Steam and nobody would know.
Thanks for the game! Have a good day.
Super creative game. I think the gameplay is also pretty good, how you can do things like parry attacks, use different attacks that are good against different enemies, powerup attacks, etc. It's fun when you demolish enemies with your squad but also terrifying when you do things like duel the giant bird which melts your hp lol. I didn't get super far but I think there's a lot of potential in this game once some minor things are improved upon (like how the red ant that joins you is slightly floating, and also attack timing should be a bit easier / more obvious imo) But yeah overall super polished experience!
WOW! We are looking at a game where every single aspect has been crafted with so much care. I especially loved the UI—someone here must be a DOTween master! The amount of variety blew me away, and the visual feedback was just spot-on. I also really liked how the game structure is cleanly divided into states. In such a complete and solid game, my only small critique would be that the in-game asset placement could have been arranged a bit better.
Super cool idea and very polished presentation for a jam entry.
I wish the combat timing windows was a little more obvious/had more grace though, it was a little tricky trying to get combos off and not being fully sure what/why they had failed (I think just timing with the attacks triggering before I finished the full input, and then waiting for the activation/cooldown). I loved the combo system but it was a little tricky to use because of this while also trying to keep an eye on the quite subtle parry indicators, eventually my most effective strategy ending up being just spamming the attack keys while watching the parry indicators instead of trying to do specific combos. This worked but I would love to be more deliberate with the attacks. Perhaps some time slow would work and could be visually fun. Or maybe I just need more practice!
Also wasn't sure how to add a name to the leaderboard, it didn't seem to ask but I may have just missed it.
Overall a fantastic jam entry and probably my favourite so far. Fantastic job, take all of my stars!
for me the gameplay was a little confusing at first, but once i got the hang of it, its really enjoyable and being able to parry is the cherry on top
Love it, the leaderboard got me hooked, but Powy is unbeatable. The variety is good. Only thing I wish was if there were more things in the shop, just for variety sake.
Overall a really enjoyable and re-playable game. Best of luck in the game jam :)
the combat system can be confusing at times but dont get me wrong:
this is an AMAZING GAME. i love it it is so addicting to me as someone who has played so much turn based games. if this game was fleshed out to me i think it has more potential than paper mario the thousand year door (one of my favorite games oat)
it is REALLY good, the UI, the art, the music, the tutorial. everything i understood for the most part. (even if i wasnt amazing at it at first)
phonemical game.
Awesome art and audio! UI looks cool too. The combat system is confusing though.
The game's polish is immaculate. I enjoyed the mechanics, parrying was satisfying and the UI is beautiful.
I'm wondering how the heck y'all got this finished in 2 weeks since this is impressive.

i got skill diffed by bugs bro
anyway game is peak, i love parrying and comboing
art is also insanely well done 🔥
Very cool visuals, i like how enemies look, nice animations. Also cool ui and ui animations , altho text was quite hard to read!
