I thought about my favorite nostalgic games, plus I wanted to do something with soccer. I remembered loving NFL Blitz 97 so much when I was little so I decided to make an "edgy" soccer game in the style of NFL Blitz. Then M is for Mega lent itself to having a Gundam vibe, full 90s.

This game is so underrated! There’s so much going on—from the player AI and physics to the ball control. It’s really impressive. Amazing work and a fantastic jam entry!
Not sure how you managed this in nine days. I dont even watch football but this was very fun. The AI after the second match was challenging but not unfair, control worked great and enjoyed using the special move to knock out the surrounding opponents.
I loved this! I was able to win it all with N American Crater :) the team names were fantastic and the gameplay felt great. A minor frustration with the camera, not being able to see the action sometimes, but I completely understand with the amount of work this must have been. I had so much fun playing this, amazing job!
had to go with the world champs gigabrazil!! this was super fun and epic. I didn't necessarily follow what the powered up move did but it looks cool and felt cool so I didn't really care either haha. and scoring goals and passing successfully felt v satisfying, great job with this!
It is nice to see a game finally represent an honest future of sports, while feeling like a truly retro experience. I loved watching the crowd, knowing they were cheering for all of us.
Probably the most fun I had with a submission so far in this jam, great gameplay and I love the concept. Lost 1-2 in the finals! just like France, I was trying to do a crazy come back! oooooof.
The robot models are so charming and I'm really impressed with the enemy AI. I had a great time playing as the N. American Crater!
As someone who's barely played a football game in his life, I had great fun with this. The models could have come straight out of Mega Man Legends, the AI was surprisingly competent (with the occasional hiccup), and the animations were really impressive. The team names made me chuckle, too - nice bit of worldbuilding there.
I love football, very fun game
I'm not a fan of football at all so I never really played any of the classic football/soccer games (or any of the modern ones for that matter), but I'll admit I had a blast playing this! Really well presented. Good use of Mixamo animations too.

Thanks for playing! Any feedback on what could’ve made the AI harder? I’m trying to learn how to make fun AIs so any thoughts would help! I think maybe dodging your slide tackles or just being move evasive if you were in range would be good. And teaching the AI to fake you out would be so cool!
I'm not sure if its entirely true, but it seemed like the AIs couldn't score? At least I beat the game without a single AI scoring.
I think they did a good job at evading your tackles, at least for me, so that doesn't seem to really be an issue.
For the AI scoring thing, maybe your goal keeper is too strong? Maybe an idea would be give the player control of the goal keeper as well lol?
oh fascinating I didn’t think about that! Honestly you and the AI have the same code to shoot, but I think the difference is the AI shoots on sight when they get in range, so they are always taking potshots. Lots to think about there, thanks for the feedback!
I don't care about the world cup but I loved this game. the music in particular reminds me of my childhood playing bomberman hero on the n64. the controls are super fleshed out and tackling the npcs feels REALLY satisfying. super great job. thanks for uploading!

Thanks for playing! I had no clue how to make the AI harder initially, but what I settled on was improving their reaction times and run speed. So in the quarters they only update their target position every 1 second or so, in the finals it’s every 0.2 seconds so they’re way better at hitting you with slide tackles. Also they go from running slightly slower than you in the quarters then get faster every round. It was my first time making any kind of meaningful enemy AI so there’s a ton to improve but it was so fun to figure out! Maybe I could have just had stats for the AI with 3 stars for speed and aggression just to communicate what was happening better.

The super move made me laugh! Good stuff. If I could recommend one tiny improvement, I wish jkl were also bound so that I would be able to dedicate my left hand to wasd movement and leave the actions to my right hand. I am a firm supporter of the wasd way :P
