Engine used for jams?

Hey All, I was curious what engine everyone uses for jams? My son has been watching a ton of GMTK recently and wanted to join the jam this year. I will be assisting how I can and in the past I have used both Godot and Unity with little success. I am not sure what I will use for this but wanted to know what everyone else uses.

I personally am leaning toward Unity because calling one node from another confuses my monkey brain for some reason.

Unity is not fun in my opinion but  godot is a great engine and you can make a simple game in no time.(the brackeys youtube channel has a great tutorial)

The C programming language and SDL2 library are my tools of choice for game building.

Plus you (probably) have the satisfaction of not having a bunch of company labels slapped onto your game, regardless of whether or not you want them there.

Yes, indeed !

You can see the most popular game engines on Itch, along with numbers showing how popular they are, here: /game-development/engines

I wouldn't bother with an engine if you're just starting out, they complicate things. Just use plain old javascript. I have a minimal example you can clone here : https://github.com/TravisWaltonGames/HTML5GameTest

you could use scratch, it's easy to learn and ment for kids
