I like the music, it feels relaxing while I am stressing with timing the jump. It would be better to have coyote time like the other one said.
The fake platforms(Quicksand) are confusing, make it difference whether cut something off or just lower opacity should be good enough.
Nevertheless, nice game for first jammer!
Thank You! I made all the music on the paino.
I like the style of this game and designs for the little guy and the enemies! The music is very relaxing too.
I like that you implemented the ability to jump higher by holding space. However, I can't stress enough just how much this game needs coyote time. It became really frustrating falling to my doom over and over because of that.
As far as level design goes, it was fine, with the exception of the certain Dunes section and and Castle level. Dunes for some reason had some platforms that just didn't have collision and I'm not sure if it's a bug or an attempt at trolling, but if it's the latter, it just doesn't work for this game specifically. If you wanted fake platforms, they should at least have some kind of sign to tell them apart, or have certain platforms fall down after a few seconds to create some urgency and then reset them. The castle level really didn't need to be that long, since it felt more like a chore than fun platforming, and lacked general obstacles or enemies on the way up.
Despite that, it's still a nice little platformer!
Thanks! I couldn't figure out how to add coyote time and some of the platforms in the sand area are supposed to be quicksand but I think I made it look bad. I also figured out that the final level was too long ten minutes before the end of the submission round so I couldn't fix it. Thanks for playing!
Ah, I see. That's shame, but perfectly understandable! BTW, congrats on your first jam!
cool game! when you open the game i must say the menu pops, i love how when you highlight stuff it gets bigger it was cool, and i really do like the map being the level select, it looked really nice, tho i must say i felt the dialogue bits were very bland looking, im comparison to the menu and the level select, and for movement i found it very difficult at first, i think speeds and jump height will need a lil tweak, but also i found out it was a varying jump height which solved alot of my problems, and i appreciate how even tho the player technically isnt animated, he squishes when he jumps or rotates when he walks it was very neat! wasnt able to beat the sand level tho as one of the platforms didnt have a box collider, overall i did like the game, and it was a nice first jam game (way better than my first ever was), but it really does lack quite a bit, really like the charecter designs too, and im sure you'll do great in future jams!
tysm! I was rushed with the dialogue and in the sand area there is quicksand and it is possible I could have made it look nicer tho. Thanks for playing!
Well done for a first time game jam!
tysm! I'll try your game now
Thanks!
I really liked the character and background artwork! I tried all the levels, but I haven’t managed to finish them yet. In platformer games like this, there is an important mechanic called coyote time, where the player can still jump for a few milliseconds after leaving a platform. Adding that would be a really nice touch. That was the only thing I felt was missing.
Thanks. Yeah, I know about Coyote time I just couldn't figure out how to make it. I will try to rate your game.
3/10 could tell you spent a lot of work on it, loved the art and music, gameplay left much to be desired, the lack of coyote time was annoying.
