Pulling off a 3d racer within a week is no small feat. The car physics might need a little tweaking, but they feel and sound pretty good already. And you even built a city. Love the vibe. Kudos!
Thanks so much!
damn that car is driving on ice, i tried to use handbrake efficiently however it didn't help with that. :C
maybe what happened is you are devs of this game that have worked for 9 days and know how to drive it efficently, but we are mere humans who have tried the game for a few minutes(and don't know some tricks probably)
Yeah, its definitely not that good! I'm not that good at driving it either, I use a lot of countersteer but I usually just end up crashing anyway. Imma try to learn more about arcade racing and give it another shot sometime.
Thanks for playing though!
btw I have tried making a car game and I noticed figuring out how to have car physics work and be fun at the same time is difficult and time consuming, so i'd say don't give up :) for example what I am doing rn in unity is replacing unity default car physics because they suck
Loved the vibe and the into was great, but driving the car was really difficult. It felt like the car was either turning too sharply or not turning enough, but I could never get it to turn where I wanted it to go. I really liked using the application as a game tutorial, that was a nice touch.
Thanks! And yeah in hindsight I agree, the car is very difficult to control
Aww yeah, nice one!! I love your 3D worlds, they pack in so much charm! Also my sense of humor may be completely destroyed by the Internet but the "Wha you lookin' at me for!? Get da pizza!!!" guy's animation made me laugh so hard I restarted the game like three times just to watch it again, 10/10. xD I seriously love how high-effort the opening is, the walking bob and hilarious instruction sheets are great (and highlighting the "game rules" parts to easily tell them apart from the incredible joke flavor text was really smart too!)
I wonder if having the steering wheel be visible as part of the UI would help people who were having trouble visualize how the steering works a bit better...? Once I understood the steering wheel didn't "bounce" back to the neutral position automatically everything made more sense and I had a lot of fun. Massive kudos to the composer, too, those tracks are so groovy!! Congrats on an epic entry B)
Thanks for the feedback and kind words!
The wheels do tween back (maybe too slowly) to the neutral position if there's no input, it just doesn't feel like that because the car is too slidey. I think what happened was I set the grip to be so low on the back wheels to make it actually go anywhere, that the car became way too slidey and lots and lots of countersteer is needed to make it go where you want it to. I probably got a bit too used to that during development (I thought it was sortof passable, but the comments here indicate its pretty awful)
Anyways a steering wheel indication would definitely be a good addition!
Making this game was super fun, and its the first game I've made that feels like a game (rather than a walking simulator or something). I'm thinking about diving into arcade racing games and giving it another shot after learning how to make a better car / driving simulation.
Once again thanks for playing, and I hope to see you around!
I really loved the GTA 3 / Daytona vibe—it was retro enough for me.
The driving, however, was really difficult. It felt like the handling was tuned for a racing game with wide, sweeping corners rather than a city with narrow block streets.
Still, I really enjoyed it. Thanks for letting us play your game!
The handling on this subaru sucks. I wonder how the game would have played if the car was a bit more steady, I only managed to pass the first level. I did like the car model and the reference to the Jimmy Neutron Pizza video.
Love the art! The car was frustrating to drive so I decided to leave the city and the pizzas behind and just drive, it was weirdly fun! But more practically, I feel like the slide levels of the car normally are the slide levels it should have when hand braking, the amount of "oversteer" at low speeds was I think too high. But really nice work overall!
Frustrating car physics, but the vibes are impeccable! This actually reminded me a lot of Carmageddon.
really fun game!! you nailed the aesthetic too!! I couldn't figure out what the handbrake did it kinda seemed to be on all the time but after a few tries i beat all the levels. I beat the final level at 1 second remaining which was very fun . sick game
the game was super fun but the car was a bit too slippy when on the road
Dude that line at the beginning is fantastic, and the music and artwork make for a very authentic ps1/retro experience. I've never worked with Godot's VehicleBody3D system before, but I've definitely struggled with some of its other system's limitations not really working as one might have initially thought, so I can empathize. But yeah, with some driving control teaks, I think this would make a great foundation project for a retro racer or crazy taxi type game in the future
Thanks! Yeah, this project has made me realise that the VehicleBody system doesn't work that well. I've since learned that there's other approaches I could've used (like using RigidBody3D's) for arcade-y driving. The driving is pretty awful in this one XD
Thanks for the feedback :)
Really loved the visuals and the retro music, took me straight back to the PS1 era. The handbrake didn't seem to have any noticeable effect when I was playing it, the car just seemed a little floaty all of the time, which made it really tricky. But incredible effort making a driving game with a minimap in the time you had, nice work, I know how long both of those things take!
The soundtrack is very good. The visuals are very beautiful, but there seems to be some problem with the shadows of the buildings. The controls are very light; the car slides a lot, even when driving in a straight line.
I mean, what's about car driving and pizza delivery? Counting mine, it's the third game this jam with this subtheme;
The game (especially the car) is gorgeous, the humor is actually funny.
Buuuutttt, I can't with those controls man... I don't know if it's a skill issue, but I was not able to go from a to b without crashing a few times... Ended up stoping at lvl 2.
Congrats, you nailed the PS1 vibes
The visuals instantly took me back to the original Driver on PS1/PC! The intro was great, really fun and immersive. Was expecting tighter car controls but otherwise solid entry.
The pizza guy made me crack up, nice animation :D Unfortunately the car controls were super floaty which prevented me from finishing the game, but it has potential! Music matched the game and overall the graphics fit the theme very well.
Have to spend some time to learn how to drive, but the game is reaaly fun. Cut scene at the start especially
The cut scene at the start was soooo good. Loved the art and music of this game a lot. Driving was definitely a bit tricky though. Great entry.
I managed to beat all the levels! It was quite fun.
The hardest part was actually to learn how to drive this car. Driving feels VERY slippery and I don't feel any difference whether I'm using the handbrake or not.
Also I could use some map readability. Sometimes I couldn't tell if a part of the world on the minimap is one I could drive on or not. Maybe if you used more minimalistic style on the minimap and had higher contrast between roads and buildings that would help.
I really like that you nailed the look of a retro racing game! It looks very good. The only thing that sticks out to me a little is the building textures being comically unscaled with the car seeming a couple floors tall.
I also like the car noises very much. And the fact that the music changes depending on your time left is a nice touch too.
Overall, a pretty good entry!
It took me a minute to get the hang of the controls! But once I did, I was able to complete a few of your levels and had a great time! Good work!
Thanks! Yeah, the car's handling is not the best XD
