Hey there Newspaperman, it's such a funny and weird implementation of an idea :)
Gambling to a turn based fight integrated RPG was an interesting idea. Art is, let's say, unique and raw in the same time. I couldn't quite get how this entry is relevant to the theme of the jam but it was a quite different experience playing the Emeliegh's adventure.
Well done submitting a finished and smoothly running game to the jam!
Gambling to deal damage is funny, also I love how comically fast Emeleigh moves I cant keep up with her. I died a lot because the battle controls were hard to understand. Good Job!
weird but fun idea
I love Magicmans smug face. Emeleigh is also very cute. The combat system is fun, with the random jackpots and the damn 2hu bullet hell out of nowhere. MASSIVE fan of the MS Paint art, I love messy stuff like that. Sadly I couldn't finish the game at this time since it's 3:17 AM and the Window just has oh too much health. Lower boss health pools and some leeway on block timing (along with a punishment for spamming the keys, because you can do that now) would go a long way.
I really want Emeleigh to smooch her main man, Magicman the Smug. I'll come back to this game just to see the ending. I took a sneak peek at your other stuff and saw more MS Paint-style messy art. Instant follow.
Overall rating: 2.5/5 Stars
Fun: 2/5 The timing-based combat inputs are initially interesting, but quickly devolve into an exhausting, extremely repetitive grind. Fighting bosses with massive health pools (like 1000 HP vs 70 HP) requiring 50+ identical repetitions ruins pacing.
Graphics: 2/5 I appreciate the self-made sprites, but in comparison to other games I have to criticize the basic geometric shapes and blurry unpolished assets.
Sounds: 2/5 The background music is far too loud and quickly becomes a bit annoying.
Theme Relevance: 1/5 Hard to find any connection to the High Score Chasers theme, as it plays like a standard low paced RPG. I haven't played the game through maybe there was a high score in the end but I don't know.
End-of-Life Plan: 3/5 Short plan provided which fulfills the requirements on a basic level.
