Fun spin on the theme! The setting is pretty cool as well, I like it. Could do with some polish but still good!

There is no executable in the linux version sorry.

awesome aesthetic!!!

Unfortunately I could not get the game to run on linux :( The linux build is missing the executable. I tried the windows build with wine but that was showing control codes.

After switching to windows I was able to get it to work. The aesthetic is very cool, but the fact that it’s actually running in a terminal means it is very difficult to control. I would much rather be able to use the mouse to aim and hold WASD to move instead of needing to spam button presses, especially given that the nature of the game means there is time pressure.

Distinguishing rubble from walls was also quite difficult - it’d be nice if the colors for those two were much different from each other (maybe they’re supposed to be, but they looked pretty similar on my terminal). Especially so when “it” starts getting close and it jumbles the letters. Very cool effect! But it makes it difficult to see.

Overall though this was a really unique entry and I love the presentation! I was able to find the gold twice, though the first time I got caught while I was on my way to it lol. While I get that making it so the game runs in the terminal itself is really cool, I recommend using standard windowing and simply emulate a terminal style since that should run more uniformly, enable better coloring/art, and much improved controls.

Thanks for the feedback!

I love the terminal aesthetic. Unfortunately couldn't get it to work on windows. I'd recommend a virtual terminal in HTML if you do another project like this in the future.

Thanks for the tip

awesome aesthetic :O i found the gold after a few tries, once i got the hang of it the gameplay felt a bit lacking in depth still making a jam entry completely in the console is really cool im curious how you programmed this !!

Thanks for the feedback! Yes, the game loop is quite repetitive and I might change it post jam. For the implementation, I followed lode’s guide on raycasting and adjusted it to work with my own ascii library. The map is basically a generated maze, using DFS, which I programmed using the maze generator series by Coding Train.

super cool!! i’d love to play more with a post jam update :O
