Really love the art style, and the core concept both mechanically and narratively is very strong.
I'm not great at these types of games so I didn't get far but I like this premise of a game that gets more difficult because enemies stay the same but the player gets weaker.
ZEUS YOUR SON HAS RETURNED! I BRING THE DESTRUCTION OF OLYMPUS!
sry I cheated
I have a couple of weird questions.
Really great concept. Reminds me of when you lose all your upgrades at the start of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. I found myself not even using the shield during the first fight, so that was an easy sacrifice for round two. Zeus has a crazy amount of health, though. I think each successful attempt of mine lasted something like five minutes, which is a lot of time to be intensely focused for. I admittedly did not get past round two for that reason. I think Zeus should've gotten more health as you lose your upgrades, and maybe that's how much health he has at the very end; I wonder how good/different it would feel to be at the end and only have one upgrade! Very kind of you to let the player restart from the current level instead of the beginning of the game.
wow really ambitious to make a bossfight !!!! I really loved the idea of choosing what ability i want to give up, to fight the same boss !!
Love the art cool concept as well. I agree with the other commentor I think attacking should have more satisfying feedback like a bit of sound especially!
I like the concept!
The gameplay and audio are nice, and omg there is narration, and the concept is really nice ! congrats x)
I loved the art, the gameplay felt tight and the story was cute. One thing I think this would benefit from is a closer link between art, sfx and gameplay. It felt like the hitboxes were larger and lasted longer than they looked or sounded.
Really novel idea. The idea of doing the same thing again, but harder is nothing new, but I have never seen it flavoured in such a way and I love it. I can see this being fleshed out enough to be a small boss rush styled game. Minor complaints would be as a leftie, who uses mouse in left and IJKL instead of WASD, the controls were not that accessible to me, but that can be overlooked in the context of a jam game and some of the abilities either did not feel they had much impact (looking at the air jumps, although maybe cause I didn't have them for later attack patterns) or were unclear exactly what they do, -1 sword and -2 jumps could use a rewording to say "You still have a melee attack/a ground jump."
Really interesting concept! I found the "reverse progression" mechanic especially engaging. I actually used a similar idea in my own jam entry, so I really enjoyed seeing a different take on it. Nice work!
Good concept, fun to play, but could have been even better if there had been more feedback to attacking. I found myself constantly having to watch Zeus' healthbar to gauge whether I was dealing damage. I did like the shifting character sprites as one lost more and more power, a nice touch. Overall, a good game.
Really fun and challenging game! I think I died once, but I really had to give it my full attention to not die. Also the cutscenes are incredible, amazing visuals.
The art for this game is genuinely stunning, I really do love the design aesthetic overall. The concept of the countdown being the loss of a trait as you progress is really creative, I liked that a lot! Plus, the gameplay is pretty straightforward. Good game!
So far my favourite take on "count down". The idea of a 'reverse roguelike' is such an amazing concept with so much potential I genuinely itch for a full-fledged game where the difficulty scales by slowly depowering you. Game design aside, the art is stunning. Only gripe is that I wish there were more animations to make combat more fluid/readable, but I understand that just comes with the 4-day time constraint.
really fun! pretty tough challenge, but well balanced
Very cool concept that should definitely be explored outside of this Jam!
Solid core loop, although definitely needs more patterns as the game progresses. Wish there was a true failstate.
Gorgeous art, for only 4 days I have nothing to say - stunning work!
Gameplay wise I think Zeus has a lot of idle time where you can get multiple hits in, so I think maybe balancing the difficulty will go a long way in making victory more satisfying
Very good animations and UI, good job!
The game concept is solid! The visuals are nice and detailed, and the gameplay is a good foundation. With some tweaks, the boss fight cycle could be less tedious or more interesting to make up for the loss of abilities! Great job!
On the plus side: great visuals, interesting gameplay early on, and at least some sort of story.
On the downside: the reverse meta-progression takes away whatever interest you had left by the end.
Overall, an interesting, simple little project for 5 minutes max.
