i have never been able to drift decently in a racing game before but i could do it here!! awesome!@!
i got in a car crash recently and this game had a lot better of an experience of a car crash than my 2002 honda. that one cost me a bunch of money and in this game nothing bad even happened. i think kaguya slipped some hourai elixir into all of our fuel tanks
basically: its baller
An impressive entry right here. I am grateful for the added tutorial because you really need to know how to drift. These cars turn like whales otherwise. But once you get going, it is quite fun working through the absurd turns. Seriously, whatever insane civil engineer designed these roads need to be shot in the interest of public safety.
The plethora of screeching tire and car crumpling sound effects is great, since you will hear them a lot. And of course some nice eurobeat for the downhill drifting. I always like seeing 3D visuals in a jam game. That's some work right there.
The game's difficulty is quite high, and some bugs preventing progression amplified that. A shame the story doesn't seem to end either. I expected some final race after I cleared 13/13, which was already a fierce challenge.
I was immediately impressed with the music and visuals! It's always fun to see the Touhou characters in 3D like this, and the tracks from prior jams and those made for this one both complemented the racing really well. The wall screeching sound is okay; how else would car manufacturers discourage people grinding against walls for the thrill? :3
I did notice some jam jank with the objectives not always being marked as cleared, which made it hard to progress - although I did enjoy going through the tracks! They have a good amount of variance, and the challenge is definitely front-and-center.
The writing was also a fun addition, although I would have been curious about how it finished out after clearing the rest of the story objectives.
In any case, the game's concept overall was really interesting, and I had quite a lot of fun! Well done as always!
Though the game was quite buggy and somewhat unfair at times, I had a alot of fun and would love to see more. It's story was meh, but the drifting mechanic made up for it. Very nice.
I played with the keyboard and then with the controller and noticed that it felt way more intuitive with controller although I don't know if that was just me, however it is still not very intuitive to grasp since the breaks are just to punishing and getting the hang of the drifting is kind of a steep learning curve at the beginning but once you start figuring it out my overview of the game changed quite a bit.
I viewed more as a driving demo and having fun hitting the walls and hearing the horrible scratches, which where quite hilarious at the begging but ended being more of background noise on the long run, and the same goes for the Eurobeat which is should be like a match in heave (just some slight modifications would fix it really). However, I ended up hooked trying to beat the time trials and a definitively would love to try the game if it was more polished since it is very addictive.
I'm seeing in the comments that you can compete against Mokou in the story battle, however, I beated the time trial 2 twice and nothing happened, so that is quite a shame. I don't know what I did wrong there.
My favorite part: Finding out that enjoy drifting. never being very fond of racing games so this sparked a new interest in me n.n
It is unfortunately quite janky and unpolished, but also kinda fun? Though the controls are so hard with drifting on brake and no reverse gear which makes any mistake unrecoverable, that I got frustrated fairly quickly. I also feel like the story race is impossible to beat, as Mokou gets some insane acceleration and turning at the last corner, even if you’re on par or ahead of her throughout the rest of the race.
I will give props to the actual tracks and environments; they’re pretty good apart from some collision issues here and there.
Here is my attempt:
I couldn't beat the second time trial :(
But was interesting seeing a racing game in the jam.
Also, for anyone trying, you select tracks with "z" (I think).
