I like the core gameplay loop here! The concept need some polish especially with the coherence of art-style. My recomendations would be to focus on making first mechanic finished and awesome to control by player and then continue with improving the other mechanic step by step. With this way game will shine with its gameplay elements.
Nice game! I do wish could be more variation going to and fro, maybe just timing switchups.
