I think it's a great concept but some of the words that are a "valid word" doesn't make sense and a lot more polishing is needed. First the premise of the gameplay is neat and I think there's a lot of potential! But this definitely falls short from what I think could an amazing game. The hints / tips costing you time is also a nice gimmick!
But of course it has it's own problems. One is the valid word pool. I'll walk you through what I did: One round I got "a" and "bee" as the starting words. Ok then I start guessing stuff like "honey" / "sweet" / "nest" / "hexagon" ... Then I decided to hit the hint for the letter count. Oh it's a one letter word? Then I just started mashing all of the alphabet until for whatever reason "i" was the valid "word" to be guessed. Some other similar "valid words" fall into similar issues. I got <brother> and <?> sauce for my hints. <brother> is connected to the word I want while <?> sauce is a derived word to the word I want. The word was "Daughter" by the way, strange isn't it?
That is probably the biggest gripe I have with the game. I'm sure the word system their relation graph is extremely complicated to make! But I can't say I had the amount of fun I expected to have jumping into this game unfortunately.
Still the concept and gameplay gimmick is really good and you should definitely keep pursuing it! The issue I talked about isn't a problem with your creative concept, it's more on the execution that needs a lot more testing before I think the concept can really shine. For a 4-day game jam I'm sure it was extremely difficult to make all of these systems and I'm not discrediting your effort that you put in!
Really creative take on word games and the count down theme. I first tried playing without reading any instructions and it was pretty clear for a complex game. The UI is simple but very informative, only suggestion would be to maybe move the typed word to the center instead of top right since I didn't notice it until later.
Nice game!! Took me a while to understand it, but after I found out you could spend time for tips on the right side I managed to win! Had a good time playing, congrats!!
i enjoyed it rly. first i struggled and put it on A1 to see how it works in easy and after 2 guesses i got it . then i put it back to standard and i must say...the idea is really cool in would love to play more but 2 things.
first was that the fps rly ging down after like 20-30 words...
and second i think how the word is choosed in the middle need tweaking. i had from the start "secure" "------" "risk". And what was the word...."risky" -.-
but overall i enjoy it ^^ nice work
This is such a cool game, like trying to guess a word with friends. Really curious about how it's done. How does the game understand the meaning and relationship of these words?
Thanks for playing :)
I built a graph of English words out of Wiktionary data, where every edge is a specific kind of relationship: synonym, antonym, hyperonym/hyponym, part/whole, derived forms and most importantly for this game - coordinated terms and related phrases.
Did you find the sticker in the game that explains the colorful arrows?
I did find the sticker, it was really helpful and informative. Impressed by the number of words/idioms the graph covered. Great job!
This is so cool! Super creative. I love the concept of trading time for clues. The ui is super simple but soo cohesive!! The phrases were very hard but that might be a skill issue lolol. Great work!
Wow that's neat! Reminds me a lot of Semantle, but with a much cuter interface. Some of the phrases were really challenging, but I had fun trying to get them. Good job!
