I think this game is really fun, and the mechanics are easy to understand. The challenge of killing the pests was really enjoyable, and I also liked having the option to plant and unplant trees. I’m wondering if the trees are able to grow bigger over time, and whether the shape or placement of the trees affects anything, such as how long they can survive or how effective they are throughout the game.
Thanks for your comments! The game is quite simple at this moment. The trees do not grow for example. The goal of the game is to keep on planting trees while avoiding that pests overwhelm your computer and crash it.
I think this game has potential! I like the simple concept but I think that the game would flourish more with more mechanics like watering and adding different types of flowers.
Good idea to include watering mechanics! However, the game will be contered around the box tree and the box tree moth. Water shortage is not a strong growth limitation for the box tree since it has relatively deep roots.
I love the idea! I saw that you plan to add more types of pests and counters for them, which I think you can have a solid releasable game even if you only add even 1-2 more varieties of pests and powerups.
I was a little confused when I saw that the trees were flowers, but I figure those are placeholders. I wondered if there was an optimal way to place the plants and thought it was a little odd that I could uproot them so easily and move them elsewhere. I think it would be more engaging and challenging if you couldn't move your plants after you placed them since this will allow for the player to be more strategic in how they want to plant their garden and not lose all their plants to pests.
Keep up the good work!
Thank you!
Many different types of pest would be interesting. Initially I will focus on the box tree moth which have four distinct stages: moth, egg, larvae and pupae. There is also a cocoon stage during winter, but this will not be covered in the game.
I agree the uprooting mechanics might be unnecessary. My idea was that only healthy plants can be uprooted. Plants attacked by pests would be unhealty and not possible to uproot.
I love the music and overall aesthetic of your game overall (love 8 bit games)!! Sometimes when I tried to shoot, it wouldn't work or it would delay, but other than that I had no issues and excited to see your final game! :)
Happy you like it! Yes, the shot did not fire when the player was not moving. This problem is now solved.
I love the music and character design! I was a bit confused what to do after the enemies were killed and the flowers planted, but the game looks great so far! Good luck!
Thanks for the nice words. More gameplay is coming soon. Currently the game is a bit dull :)
The game was very entertaining for a bit until there wasn't any enemies left to kill; there wasn't anything to do other than replant the flowers?(they look like trees to me, what kind of flowers are they, I might just not of seen these flowers before?). I really like the character design :) The aesthetic was consistent and fit when the style of game presented. However, the impact was very little to non-existent. After reading the page, there seems to be more gameplay coming? I'm sure it will also be fun but this game isn't quite ready to release, but I did enjoy it and it has potential. I look forward to seeing the final product. :)
Thanks for playing. As you mention the gameplay is limited or non-existent at the moment. Yes, the flowers look like trees, but we will replace them with box trees. The larvas are supposed to be the box tree moth larva, an invasive species in Europe. More gameplay is coming and we will try to make the impact clear.
Funny character animation. I really liked it! The sound in the game also meets expectations. I would really like to see the completed project and hope that everything will work out for you. Good luck!
