Howdy all! Our team is currently looking for an additional artist - ideally one comfortable with environment design and background art, though we also would be interested in hearing out folks who are interested in UI or CGs.
Our Game:
- Working title "Fixation"
- There's a stupid sexy biologist supervillain who's developed a mutagen, and is using it to turn himself/kidnapped victims into chimera-like monsters. You play as the latest unlucky recipient of his attention.
- Inspired by horror TTRPGs like Mothership -- your character can defeat the villain, escape alive, or solve the mystery of what's going on... not accomplish all three.
- "Monstrosity as metaphor" - while the villain is obviously in the wrong here, allegories about social acceptance and the body as a form of self-actualization will be important themes that get discussed
- Other thematic touchstones: butterfly pinning/metamorphosis, the 4 Fs (fight, flight, freeze, fawn are our "stats"
Aesthetic Pitch:
- Bold, limited color scheme. (blue/green + red accents) Focus on stylization, contrast, and atmosphere over realism.
- Very likely gonna take inspiration from the cool goopy effects from 'The Summer Hikaru Died' for the mutagen.

Our Team:
- Inky - Writer/Programmer (can also draw, but will likely have hands full with programming), has participated in several previous game jams
- Minty (me!) - Writer/Artist. I don't do art professionally, but I do work in the game industry.. Will bring production/QA experience into keeping the project organized, on schedule, and in scope.
- Reena - Composer/Musician (has a lot of genre range and experience working on VN soundtracks with friends, bandcamp here: https://reena-p.bandcamp.com/album/cult-of-the-nu-girl
Our Work So Far:
- Inky and I have already been working steadily on pre-production for a few months now. We've put a lot of care into keeping the project organized and being mindful of scope/workload.
- We have a working Game Design Document, a narrative structure fully mapped out in Miro, and are transitioning some of that over to a text game platform so that we can playtest and refine the stat/dice roll elements. I'm also doing some simple color/layout thumbnails right now.
- We're all chill 30+ year-olds who are friends and know how to collaborate with kindness and respect. There won't be infighting or cultural issues on this team. A lot of jam teams never make it to the finish line, but I am confident that barring some disaster, we'll have a game to deliver at the end of Sept.
