Looking for feedback on the refinements to the Ally system as well as the 3 new allies

I’ve just updated the demo for The Endless Night with a major rework of the ally system.

Allies now have player-controlled abilities, so you can decide when to heal, defend, suppress enemies, change formation, or use more specialized actions. The roster has also expanded with The Masked Vigilante, The Mayor, and The Mob Boss.

Spell cards received a substantial visual redesign as well, with clearer source symbols, combo information, targeting, and effect presentation.

The free Windows demo includes the complete first act:

For this round, I’d particularly appreciate feedback on:

  • Whether the Ally Ability menu is easy to understand
  • Whether controlling allies adds meaningful decisions without slowing combat down
  • Whether the redesigned spell cards make recipes and effects clearer
  • Which allies feel useful, confusing, overpowered, or underpowered
  • Any bugs involving targeting, abilities, or sigils

The full update breakdown is here:

Thanks to anyone who gives the new build a try.

Quick tip, perhaps put the demo link up the top of the webpage as well if you want to get feedback.

Otherwise it looks like a paid only game until you scroll down.

Thanks for taking the time to share this.

Honestly, I tried to do this from the moment I first created my page, but I haven’t been able to figure it out. Even after reading your comment, researching it some more, and playing with the settings, itch.io doesn’t seem to allow me to place a demo button at the top next to the purchase button. To compensate, I made sure to call out the downloadable demo near the beginning of the page.

But since you took the time to comment, I’d love to provide you with a key to the full version.
