Really cool concept and pretty fun game! I wish the text editor and command shell didnt take up so much space on the screen. I couldn't see the whole puzzle at once. Overall really clever and fun game

Really glad to hear that you liked it! We mentioned it in other comments, but the windows are resizeable and there's a minimize button at the top right that makes only the top bar visible - though we definitely could have made it more clear in the actual game since it seems like many people didn't realize this.

As a programmer, I absolutely loved the concept of this game! The built-in code editor and terminal mechanics are super clever and well executed. Really innovative take on the theme and satisfying to figure out. Rated! I'd be thrilled if you could check out my arena shooter (EXOSHELL SYNDICATE) and share your thoughts too.

I loved that you included two of best interpretations for Shell. The concept is really fun and intuitive, it feels very nice to play and it looks really good. Honestly, a very enjoyable game.

I'm a bit of a sucker for anything Shell based, and I am glad to see this does not disappoint. While very much in line with the usual programming-for-newbies style of gameplay, I love the presentation and the need to actually use semi-shell commands and such, and the puzzles are pretty well made and fun to solve. My only real complaint is that the shell windows have to take up a lot of the screen, and while it is charming to have to manage screenspace like that (much like with my actual projects using the shell), it is a bit of a pain in gameplay. Maybe having some dedicated whitespace would be good? Overall though, the game is great!

Thanks for the comment! I definitely get what you mean, trying to figure out how to give you enough space with the ide and shell was tough. We added a minimize button at the top right of the windows in order to make them smaller, though it seems like people may have missed it.

Game is intriguing, reminds me of code.org or something from elementary school. That being said, it felt more like work than playing a video game, and the music does get a bit repetitive. Also, I think there should be a better way to move the tabs around or something, maybe like when game is running they disappear momentarily.

I'm not smart enough to review this game, but I respect the unorthodox genre choice. The music is pleasant, the visual presentation is really cool and the little crunchy typing SFX noises make the game feel really cozy. Unfortunately, I can't wrap my head around the tutorial and couldn't make the crab follow even a single command. I probably forgot a bracket somewhere because that's how these things always are. Nevertheless, this is a cool game. I'm sure its intended audience would love it, even if it's not my thing.

Thank you for the kind words! We're sorry to hear that the game was a bit hard - the first two levels were designed to act as tutorials, so already have the code needed to beat the level filled in so all you need to do is hit run in the terminal, or you could mess around with the code to see how it works. Try using the help command in the terminal which should give explanations on different functions that are hopefully useful. I know the game is definitely not for everyone so we're really glad you tried it!

Gotcha, thanks for the help! I'll give it a second shot when I have the time!

I thought it was fun and I loved the way the gameplay loop is formed. I only wish that there was something explaining the way the game worked like a little pop up text explaining what to do in the first level, I had not full screened the game so the comments in the main file was cut off leaving me thinking how to actually play the game. Otherwise fun gameplay loop especially for people who enjoy programming.

This has an awesome theme and great design. I think the puzzle mechanics need to be spread out more, as it can be confusing how everything works. I would have liked a tutorial, as I didn't realize you could resize the main window until a while after playing.
