Tales of the Environment's itch.io pageArtistic Statement / Use of Theme
The project incorporates the themes of the jam by using grafting. The point of the game was not to show people how to graft but to inform people that grafting is an action that can help the climate. Whether it's to grow more plants or make the area more vibrant or even make plants become more resilient, people can graft. The game talks about the climate changing as well as global warming and the effects of that onto this island and I want to show people that even areas that may be abandoned now can thrive if we take care of the land with many techniques which includes grafting.
Development Summary
The team went through a LOT of planning at the beginning. We were drawing out many ideas until one of our teammates thought about a game about grafting a tree, and that's what we went for. There were many major changes during the development that was cuts that I really didn't want to make. These cuts were a beginning cutscene, voice acting, fixing visual bugs, more sound effects, an end cutscene stating that th game ended, lantern flies that attacks the tree, and many, many more. These cuts were difficult to make but we had to in order to ship the game. This was my first project with these teammates, and I believe that they did a great job for their first game Jam. This is my second game Jam but first game Jam where I have a finished product.
(optional) Release Plan
I believe the game is releasable but not finished. Although the game is playable, the player will not know when the game is finished unless they realized that they gathered and scanned everything in the environment. The release plan is to make a released trailer on YouTube to give it a boost.
(optional) Further Development Plan
If we were to continue, I would add a checklist for the players to follow, an end screen, lantern flies attacking the Great Tree, more dialogue from the Great Tree, more areas for the player to explore, voice acting, and an end screen.

Hi, just "finished" the game. The game took me around 45 minute to finish, and I find the process of going through challenges and getting the branches and the seeds very fun. It reminds me of the earlier Roblox game I played before. I would say, the day and night system is a bit confusing (did not create great difficulty later when I know all I have to do is wait), the cave was a bit challenging, and the branch for the mountain area was a bit tricky to find. I don't know if I broke the game but after crafting all 6 branches, the game did not end, and the rewinding to the first day (glitch or design?) was also a bit confusing.
But despite all that, I enjoyed the game and did had fun with the time I spend in it.
I could not proceed after starting the game - could not leave the grafting menu. Thanks for making, would love to see the gameplay loop through to completion!
There was a really early game breaking bug where I got stuck in the grafting menu and could not exit it or leave the game because the exit button was being blocked by the grafting menu. After restarting the game, the objective was very unclear even after the tree explained it to me so I feel some more dialogue would really help players understand what they are supposed to be doing. Also there was no way to reread the grafting mechanic explanation which made it difficult to understand what I was supposed to be doing or if I was doing anything successfully. I think player feedback would help communicate if actions are helping the environment also it is unclear how the grafting mechanic works because even after collecting items across the entire map nothing seemed to happen.
Thank you for your feedback. I will make it possible for the player to view the tutorial again just so the player doesn't get lost. For the grafting there was a bug I had recently fixed being the branches not able to be found which I fixed that as well. Seems like there's a got a lot of updating to do on communicating with the player.
