First thing I tried to do was click "options" and it didn't work.

Cuitscene looks amazing, especially for a jam game, I'm not used to seeing that level of polish.

I'd suggest mapping the movement to both arrows and WASD, so players can do whatever they prefer. Diagonal movement would've been good too, I saw you were able to accomplish it on the bumper car section.

It seems you put int coyote time which is great, but no jump buffering. Usually those go hand-in-hand. I'm also not a big fan of the pause on landing, but overall the platforming is actually pretty solid.

Player animation is great, all art looks pretty good though it seems to clash against each other. A more limited palette would probably make everything look even better, I suggest grabbing one from lospec.com and sticking with it for the whole project.

The bumper cars can be seen spawning out of nowhere. There's a Godot node that detects if it can be seen on-screen, I'd suggest implementing that so cars only spawn off screen (like the horde in Left 4 Dead)

The balloon stage made me realize that air control could use a bit of work. Like have the horizontal movement be faster while the player is in the air, and deceleration slowed. It's a hard thing to get just right.

The water gun game is where I had to quit. Hit detection pretty much seemed random and even when I scored points, they kept reverting back to 0.

Thanks for all the feedback, glad you like the art and animation!

-WASD and options should have been implemented, but it was one of those "I'll do that last" things...

-Overworld's 4-Direction movement was intentional as direct inspiration from Commander Keen, but I see how it becomes a nuisance so it probably would be better as 8-directional.

-Ah damn, forgot the jump buffering, and the hard-landing is definitely playing too often, it should be reserved only for the biggest drops.

-The art style of background mostly being retro-3D and characters being drawn 2D was designed with the initial concept, as it offers a nostalgic style with some visual separation of the character and background, although we do understand it can be jarring to look at at times.

-We considered limiting the color scheme, but said eh what the hell, it's a circus let's be a little chaotic and colorful.

maybe having each level defined by a palette of its own could be something though.

-Yeah the bumper cars are too 'explosive' in their spawning, since the area is pretty small for off-screen, we could maybe have them rise through some trapdoors

-Balloons are tough, air control absolutely has to be improved

-Oof the water-pistol is the most screwed up, to fake a 3D effect I put too much movement on the pistol and it hardly feels connected to where it's shooting,

we should've at least enabled the shooting reticle until we make it fully functional.

-If it's any help (for anyone trying to pass it, before we fix it), you can try to choose only one row and just shoot left right without changing height,

try not to focus on the pistol but where the water ends up

-Every target that lowers by itself, lowers your points, we should've just put negative points only when you miss the targets.

Unfortunately we were a bit low on time, so many aspects are not the best.

But we're happy with the result since it's our first 2D platformer, and we got some fixin' to do after the jam ends so every bit of feedback is appreciated,

Again thank you for playing and replying, we hope you enjoyed it :D

Check out my game pls and criticize it.

Thanks! Yeah the balloons are a bit tricky to pass, I am both glad and concerned about how difficult some levels turned out.

This game has such a cool look to It. And I liked the bumper car minigame.

Theme is "Lost in a carnival" with the protagonist Phobia Freddie,
inspired by retro platformers like commander keen, all criticism is very welcome.
Have fun!

Controls:

  • Movement : Arrow keys
