Visual Novel Format Liberties

Hi all!

Assessing this jam to bring my team over from a jam that has been delayed! I was hoping to know how strict the format of a "Visual Novel"  has to be to qualify for this jam?

For instance, could there be additional game aspects like an overworld, or a 3rd person character, that allows for navigation between conversations? Can mini-games be involved as you work your way through the story?

Or is there a specific formant/guidelines that strictly dictate what qualifies for this Jam?

Thanks you in advance!

We tend to be fairly permissive when it comes to what we allow.  Minigames and exploration are usually okay, but the primary focus of the visual novel should be the reading moreso than anything else.
