Here are a few points that I hope are constructive: some floor textures make the environment harder to read, due to patterns that are too busy in terms of detail and color; lightening the floor, perhaps by making it more opaque or more neutral, could help. I would also have liked a camera that detaches a bit from the character depending on where they’re looking, because in 16/9 it’s sometimes hard to see enemies coming from the top or bottom of the screen.

The “elevation” theme fits well with the elevator in the game. Aside from these points, I had a lot of fun. I really liked the cigar UI, which feels very original. The illustrations are of very high quality for a jam: the composition and framing match the situation perfectly, especially the shot focusing on the eyes behind the glasses, which is spot-on. The gameplay is very clear and pleasant to play. I don’t know if you plan to take this project further, but it would be great to see a follow-up.

Very good feedback points, thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it and will be sure to let the team know!

Poor old man is just trying to enjoy his summer holiday. Damn LSD mutants. I liked it a lot! The controls were relatively responsive, the presentation was really nice and the story was fun! Great job on the story card art!

Props to the whole team!

Developer

Thanks for playing and glad you enjoyed it. Any nitpick for the controls you might like to have seen improved?

HostSubmitted

Hmmm. Less about the controls and more that I'd prefer that the player was slightly faster than the enemies? instead of practically identical in speed. The number of enemies creates for enough challenge, but the option to run, make some room, and then attack would be nice. Otherwise, with little hp left, you are just running until you can't anymore and you die :')

But the controls are pretty tight. Changing it would be a matter of taste; I don't have anything objective to complain about.

Developer

Gotcha 👍I'll certainly keep that in mind for the future.

Man, I LOVE the hand-drawn cut scene art!!! The gameplay was fun too and I love 1) that the health bar is represented as a cigar and 2) that the tutorial is set up through interactive exploration.

On the boss level I somehow kicked him out of bounds lol, so unfortunately I got softlocked. image.png

Major kudos to the whole team! :)

Thanks a ton for the feedback and very happy you enjoyed it! We'll have to see what we can do about enemies flying off like that 😅

Developer

Thanks for playing and thanks for the feedback! We are looking into the bug where you can kick enemies off screen (using bullets on the boss atm can avoid getting stuck but kicking other enemies off screen is non blocking).

Good to know! Honestly what’s a game jam without a few bugs - one of my playtesters also clipped through a barrier XD
