I love the leader/solo dynamic! I think something like that would go great for a lot of different adventures. You've given me a lot of ideas

Fellow Cthrion enjoyer! Cool, unique concept. I had some trouble at first grasping the additions to the statblock, but ultimately I think that was a clever way to do it. The overlapping villain actions are really cool. Mechanically I think we lost some juice to fit in the space, but I really appreciate the extra details included with the Tactics sections and Onyx Crystals. Very neat!

At a first glance: this document is quite easily readable (not that that’s a factor for judging), though I feel the “The Jester of Doom” text gets a little bit lost with the backing illustration.  I also quite like the typeface choice - it’s fun and whimsical, and fits the vibe you’re going for!

I quite like ‘Captivated’ as a condition.  It immediately reads to me as the opposite of ‘Frightened’ - which I was pleased to see was functionally its mechanics; and generally something I can see working quite well with the existing hame design.  It feels like a *natural* inclusion.

From a lore perspective: I’m curious about the Onyx Realm.  Is this perhaps the manifold Cthrion Uroniziir originates from, or one of their own making?  I only ask because we know from MCDM’s lore discussions (and confirmed in the ‘Crack the Sun’ backerkit) that Cthrion is currently imprisoned within the sun of Orden.

I was a bit skeptical about having the Herald’s two statblocks layered over one another - but that was a good call for concision, and you made it really clear which abilities came online and when.  It reads very clearly, and I would not foresee myself getting confused/frustrated running the encounters.

I do wish there was more variance in the ‘Leader’ abilities for when the Herald becomes a ‘Solo’ monster - the current design is condition-adds and a damage-add; maybe a slightly modified range, or being able to target an additional creature with ‘Dance, Dance, Dance Mad!’ would help further the distinct feeling between the two phases (or maybe it would break game balance - I haven’t tested it; I’m just spitballing ideas).

Overall, this is a solid entry!  Nice work!

Page set up is well done for keeping the leader and solo phases on the same pages. The herald looks like an absolutely irritating (positive) enemy.

I believe there's a typo near the end of the Time is My Servant description. Currently ends with "reduced to" when I think it should be "reduced by". Otherwise, everything's very clear to follow! Excellent work.

Thank you! I appreciate it. I'll take a look at that typo.

A really fun and in-depth idea for an encounter. Especially a fan of the second phase turning them into a Solo and the Onyx Realm lore. Great work!

Developer

Hey thanks! I've got Cthrion the onyx dragon as the BBEG in my campaign, so I thought it'd be neat to bring some of my home campaign nonsense into the jam.

Very flavorful entry, love the Kefka vibes!

Thanks! I just remember being a kid playing FFVI and thinking "my god... I absolutely hate this stupid clown." I had never felt that way before about a video game villain. It's stuck with me!

The combination of a solo and a leader stat block was incredibly clever! the abilities are all very flavorful and they feel like the players will get super annoyed with this guy incredibly quickly (in a fun way).  Good work! It was fun to read!

Captivation is such a clever condition. Well done. You've also applied good concise writing for cover two monsters in one page. Time Aura is such a good 'yes but' ability too.

Thank you! Credit for captivation goes to surfingBen and Jacons and the brewery server!

Yes, time aura was originally just AoE slow and dazed, and then someone told me to "plus" it. I thought it'd be interesting for players to be able to "see into the future", but have to pay the penalty. It's a mad court jester, he wants to tease the players and punish them for it.

Good implementation of a statblock that combines a leader and a solo creature together. Actually usable!

Really awesome idea and implementation for a multi-stage boss fight!
