Hey everyone,
I’m looking for an experienced programmer, 3D artist, and music composer to help me build a prototype for an open-world adventure game I designed called Portal Blocks. I have the whole story, the combat system, and all 6 wand abilities fully planned out, but I need a human team to handle the creation. I'm not the best with a lot of online social chatting, so I’m just going to list how the game works right here!
The Story & Progression Loop:
You play as a normal boy whose brother gets kidnapped by an evil force from another dimension. The villain wants to lock him in a sci-fi lab and research him because the brother has secret portal powers. To save him, you have to explore massive open worlds. Out in the wilderness of each dimension, you will discover villages full of characters who give you fun side quests. You will also have to complete ancient temples spread across the map to get Portal Blocks. First, you have to track down the main portal gate and beat the boss guarding it. Once the boss is defeated, you use your collected blocks to physically fix the broken gate, and then activate the portal with your wand to travel to the next world.
The Graphics & Worlds:
The game uses beautiful, smooth 3D Zelda-style graphics (no cubes/blocks). The first dimension looks exactly like Earth with normal nature and human villages, but the neighboring second dimension gets a bit weirder. The further you travel from home, the more the graphics and terrain change into crazy, difficult dimensions. This isn't about traveling to the future—instead, the farther you go, the more different the people in the villages look, featuring completely unique types of characters and species.
The Combat & Portal Wand (No Swords!):
The main character doesn’t use a sword. The Portal Wand is your only weapon and tool, powered by an Energy Tank and Stamina Bar. The combat is close-up and risky, but you have long-range tricks too. You get the first 3 abilities early, unlock the next 2 during the middle and end of the game, and get the final one at the very end:
- Object Mover: Lets you slide and push big puzzle blocks out of the way. (Early Game)
- Energy Shield: This is manual, not automatic. You have to tap the button right before an enemy hits you to pop a shield ball and bounce them backward. (Early Game)
- Energy Bolts: Your main close-range attack. It shoots electric shocks to zap monsters up close. (Early Game)
- Wall Phaser: Lets you slide straight through thin walls to find hidden treasure. Upgrading your energy tank lets you pass through much thicker walls. (Middle Game)
- Time Pause: A sci-fi reality glitch that freezes everything around you so you can grab hard-to-reach items. It takes 100% of your energy tank to use, and upgrading your tank makes the pause last longer. (Late Game)
- Portal Sight: An endgame power where you aim at glass surfaces in the final worlds to open up instant teleport shortcuts. (End Game)
The Enemies:
Monsters have different mechanics that change how you fight them. For example, some enemies might be totally shock-proof, meaning your Energy Bolts won't work on them and you have to find a different strategy to defeat them.
I’m the director and writer for this project. If you are a coder, artist, or musician who loves Zelda/Minecraft loops and wants to build this prototype for free as a fun hobby team, please leave a comment below!
