Ai Usage
If you have competed before, how has your game changed?
AI DISCLAIMER: All sprites, graphics and code have been handmade by me or other humans!
I got rid of the AI generated backgrounds, overhauled the title screen completely and made my own.
Thx and have fun with the game!ππ§βπ¦Όπ¨π
Here are the most important changes since the last time:
- all AI generated backgrounds have been removed and replaced by a handmade background (which also fits and looks much better!π)
- The Office Store has opened its doors and you can buy (unlock) tracks, chairs, characters... And secrets(!) at the corresponding shops. There's also a small test track where you can try out every chair before buying it.
- all chairs, except one, all characters except two & all tracks except one are locked at the beginning and must be bought at The Office Store to get unlocked.
- New chair is available: The Industry Standard! Unlockable in the Office Store.
- fixed a bug where the news message could not be closed with keyboard or gamepad because the buttons were not in focus
- added a news message that will appear on the title menu (can be deactivated)
- turned off the scouting camera by default
- All unlocked characters are now roaming through The office Store scene! π
- Added light to the Office Store building when Halloween or Xmas season is active
- Added hints to locked characters, tracks & chairs that they can be unlocked in The Office Store
- Added hints to unlocked secrets that tell the player where to set them up
- camera moves pixel perfect now
- reduced the distance that the scouting cam moves forward
- replaced the direction arrows with a mini map πΊοΈ
- added off-screen indicators that show the directions to unoccupied chairs β‘οΈ
- optimized the tracks for a better racing experience
- Added a new character: Drew Hythrain π©·
- Added a Valentine's Special: On Valentine's Day, the characters show a speech bubble with a heart in it whenever they bubble into each other β€οΈ
- Added a tutorial screen to the test track & at the beginning of a race that can be activated or deactivated in the options
- Added in-game money: You get money for completing races, beating your records in time attack or by collecting things in seasonal game modes.
- Added a slow motion and gray scaling effect when the player falls down
- Added red color to gray scaling when brutal mode is active π
- Added a quickrace button to the title menu where you can choose the difficulty and then start a race with a random character, chair, turbo mode and on a random track - including locked ones! But you get no money for completing a quick race!
- Added 2-player-split-screen to quickrace
- Reduced contrasts of kitchen and toilet floor tiles to be less distracting
- added a pink outline to carpets and puddles to be able to recognize them more easily
- added screen shakes when losing health points and falling off the chair
- the camera will now always follow the player in the old style when they're off chair
- overhauled the title screen, rearranged the buttons and moved the Brutal Mode option and the Big Chair mode option to a 2nd page in the options menu
- added a reset-progress-button to the options
- added a tutorial active button
- added the possibility to change the keyboard controls between players 1 & 2 (arrow keys<-->WASD/QZSD)
- the volume will change now for +/-6dB when the volume arrows are being pressed (instead of 2dB)
- Windowed mode is now standard for Windows & Linux versions and can be optionally set to full screen
- moved the turbo selection to the chair selection screen, so you can choose the Turbo Mode everytime before a race starts. Super Turbo multiplies the won money by x1.1 and Ultra Turbo by x1.2.
- added Bluesky social media button to title screen
- adjusted AI opponent acceleration when turbo modes are active

I genuinely enjoyed it more than I thought I would, I don't play many racing games but maybe I should try more!
You were present during the stream and have already made changes which is fantastic!
My biggest issue was the amount of clicks needed to get into a race, since you have to do it for every race it becomes tedious. The less the player needs to wait to play the game the better!
Having it save your starting settings would be great, you could have the option to go back to menu or continue racing. Whether or not that includes character select is up to you, since the characters are cosmetic I don't see a reason to change them every time but it can be a tab in the set up portion for the race. That way you have the option to change but if not it uses the last selected character, same with the chairs.
Thank you again for popping into the streams!

I really wanted to play the halloween mode (big π fan) and luckily I put it off until now so itβs automatic π I liked it! I made sure to have the latest update and I feel like the higher resolution was really nice!
Some random thoughts I wrote down while playing:
Editor.modeto the Project Settings > Display > Window settings you can have the editor be windowed and the exported game will use the normalModeBut I had fun with it and like the improvements! The slow mo when I fall off is nice and makes the interaction less frustrating.
I realized that quick race had extra levels so I did that for a few races, but I never earned enough money to unlock more levels. It might just be me, but Iβm not really used to having to grind through the exact same level over and over to unlock more levels didnβt feel satisfying. Iβm not sure how money works in 2 player, but it felt difficult to overcome that hurdle and unlock more levels. A campaign mode or smth that progressively unlocks levels might encourage players to play more, Iβm afraid the grind to unlock levels might discourage players.
And Iβm not sure what the npc speech bubbles mean, they seemed random but this one gave me a non PG vibe π the pumpkin head has that effect on people

Hey! With FQ9 ending soon, I wanted to let you know that I won't be able to cover your game until after the event. If you're okay with waiting, just keep the game on the event and I'll be getting around to it over the next couple of months or so. :)
Thanks a lot for the detailed review!
All points are valid and I'm already working on improving most of them! π
The resolution increase comes with the next update!
Also: congrats on the great lap time on Lizzy's Home track!
I feel like there's potential here. I'm getting Kirby Air Riders vibes? But it's buried deep. The menus and UI are very confusing visually. You should ditch the attract mode/map preview while all those words and faces and pictures and animations are on-screen. Or at least cover it with like a ColorRect with self_modulate.a set to 0.9, or something.
I couldn't take in all the information, so I just tried to wing it. Bad move. I couldn't move for 5 seconds because I was trying to press WASD. Then I accidentally jumped out of my chair. I saw the arrow on the couch, so I thought "oh, cool! Kirby's Air Ride rules! I'll just run over and start driving the couch!" Nope. The button that made me leave my chair did not let me get into the couch, even though it had an arrow on it.
I see you keep re-submitting this. Keep trying! There's something fun and interesting here. I didn't have the patience to learn how to access it, this time? But if you can get that friction down a little bit, maybe someday it'll take off.

I finally got to try this game! I wanted to test it last year, but ran out of time. Controls are smooth, graphics are cute, music adds to the chaos. The hidden interactive items (pool, bbq) are a pleasant surprise. Who cares about the race, there's a POOL you can just jump into π€£ The hidden/unlockable characters are a great touch. And the secret merchant guy who sells the secret chair--LMAO that was a surprise to be sure. π€£π€£
