Tonight’s worldbuilding rabbit hole: the Orcish language. 🥁

Soooo...I realised that if I want Orcish culture to have its own identity, and that I can’t just keep inventing names that sound vaguely Orcish and call it a day. 😂 'I mean...I can, but...nah!)

So tonight, I went back to one of my favourite ways of creating words ! the linguistic méchoui.

I take the word I’m looking for and translate it into several completely different languages, then throw all those sounds into the same pot and see what survives.

For example, tonight’s word victim was "adult." (It was supposed to be easy...)

French: adulte English: adult Māori: pakeke Oromo: gaa’eessa Japanese: otona Swahili: mtu mzima Indonesian: dewasa Samoan: tagata matua Malagasy: olon-dehibe

Then I started chopping, mixing, and seasoning. And after a bit of linguistic cooking…😂 (Meaning me sitting in front of my screen deleting letters, or adding them to one another. I am not Tolkien.)

Parkar was born.

So, for now:

🥁 Parkar — adult (It took me 2 hours! TWO!!! For ONE word!!! Do you know how many actual words I could have added to the demo if I wasn’t this stubborn?!)

And now I’m doing the same thing for woman and man, while keeping in mind all the Orcish names we already know — Corden, Ormira, Laghur, Mirruk, Nineya…(You have no idea of who I'm talking about, right?)

Because apparently I have decided that creating a fictional language at nearly midnight is a perfectly reasonable use of my time.

Wish me luck. 😂

Hey, it was hotter than hell and humid to boot last night,so at 2am I decided to try every spread in my refrigerator on toast. We shouldn't judge others on sleepless night decisions.

Horseradish mustard on buttered toast is surprisingly good at a quarter past two...

I am not judging ! 😆

So much luck!!!!!

🍀 😊

i think parkar sounds really good! sometimes our brain works like that, feeling creative and productive in the middle of the night, good luck!

Yeah I like it too. I wanted something punchy for Orcish language. But in truth 30 minutes after this post I feel asleep 🤣

.......I don't want to be that person, and I love how you went about it. But I first read that as Parkour. xD That just might be on me and my dumb brain. xD

I am not the only one I see 😆
