Raykou & Bodu

Hi!

I'm Robert, from Sweden, and I've been developing the concept and design for a game called Raykou & Bodu.

I'm primarily a game designer and writer rather than a programmer or artist, and I've reached the point where I would like to see if there are any developers here who find the project interesting and might want to explore turning it into an actual game together.

I'm not looking for someone to simply “make my game for me.” I'm looking for a collaborator (or eventually a small team) who genuinely likes the concept and would be interested in helping shape it into something that can actually be built.

What is Raykou & Bodu?

Raykou & Bodu is a single-player 3D action-platformer with Metroidvania elements, focused on exploration, platforming, combat, secrets and animal transformations.

The main character, Raykou, is a young anthropomorphic Siberian Husky who travels together with Bodu, an owl companion.

The game takes place across a series of large fantasy kingdoms, each with its own visual identity, enemies, bosses and exploration mechanics.

One of the main gameplay systems is Raykou's ability to acquire different animal transformations. Each transformation provides new traversal abilities and allows the player to reach previously inaccessible areas.

The overall inspiration comes from the kind of colorful 3D platforming/adventure games I grew up enjoying, combined with Metroidvania-style progression and exploration.

What has already been designed?

Although there is currently no playable build, the project has gone through substantial concept and pre-production work.

I currently have:

  • A detailed Game Design Document (GDD)
  • Main story and characters
  • The complete kingdom/world structure
  • Core gameplay and movement systems
  • Combat concepts
  • Animal transformation system and abilities
  • Player progression
  • Boss concepts
  • Enemy concepts for each kingdom
  • Collectibles and secrets
  • Control scheme
  • Level and exploration concepts
  • Character and environment reference material
  • Concept illustrations showing intended gameplay situations

The GDD is available to anyone who becomes seriously interested in the project.

Current state of the project

I want to be completely transparent about where the project currently stands.

There is no playable game or prototype yet.

My skills and intended role are on the creative/design side. I am not a programmer, professional 3D artist or animator, so I cannot build the game myself.

My intended role would be:

Creator / Game Designer / Writer

I would continue working on the game's design, story, dialogue, characters, worlds, gameplay concepts, documentation and overall creative direction, while working closely with the developer(s) on what is technically and realistically achievable.

I am also completely open to changing or simplifying parts of the design when necessary. The GDD represents the vision for the game, not a list of demands that must be implemented exactly as written.

What am I looking for?

Initially, I would especially like to meet a programmer/game developer who enjoys 3D platformers and finds the concept interesting.

I'm not expecting anyone to immediately commit to building the entire game.

A much more realistic first goal would be to create a small playable prototype containing some of Raykou's basic movement and gameplay mechanics in a simple test environment.

If that works and we enjoy working together, we can decide where to take the project from there.

I'm currently open regarding the engine. Unity, Godot, Unreal or another suitable engine can be discussed with whoever handles the technical side.

Long term, the project would obviously require additional skills such as 3D art, animation, environments, audio, etc., but I'm not trying to recruit an entire development studio at once.

Right now I'm mainly interested in finding the right person or people to start with.

For the initial prototype, I'm mainly looking for someone comfortable with 3D gameplay programming — character movement, camera, basic combat/interactions and implementing gameplay mechanics. You don't need to be able to handle art, animation, music or every other part of development.

Compensation / Revenue Share

This is currently a rev-share hobby project, not paid contract work.

I cannot offer upfront payment or a salary.

If the project eventually becomes a commercial game and generates revenue, I believe the people who actually build the game should receive the large majority of that revenue.

The exact revenue split would be discussed and agreed upon between everyone involved before the project reaches that stage, based on roles and contributions.

Making the game real is considerably more important to me than personally making a large amount of money from it.

Important – AI-generated reference artwork

I want to be completely transparent about the artwork shown in this post.

The current concept art and character/environment reference images are AI-generated.

I created the characters, their personalities, abilities, world concepts, gameplay ideas and visual descriptions, and used generative AI to visualize those ideas.

I did not personally draw the artwork, and I do not present myself as the artist who created these images.

The images are primarily intended as visual references for the project's design and intended direction, rather than finished production assets.

If artists eventually join the project, I would be happy for the final game's visual assets to be created specifically for the game using the reference material as a starting point.

Interested?

If any of this sounds interesting, feel free to reply here.

You don't need professional industry experience. I'm more interested in finding someone who likes the concept, has relevant development skills, communicates well and would enjoy experimenting with it together.

I'm happy to share more information, additional concept material and relevant parts of the GDD with anyone who is genuinely interested.

Time commitment: There is currently no fixed weekly hour requirement. This would begin as a hobby collaboration, and I'd rather agree on something realistic together than expect someone to work a second unpaid job.

I'm looking to collaborate with adults (18+), particularly because revenue sharing and project ownership may eventually require formal agreements.

Location: I'm based in Sweden (CET/CEST), but the project is fully remote and I'm open to collaborating with people from anywhere.

Thanks for reading!

Hello
Sound interesting, can you saend  more info abut project or show some design stuff.

I have few years of UE exp bp and c++

Hi! Thanks for your interest.
I have a condensed GDD with more information about the project and some concept art that I can send you privately. I’d rather not post the design document publicly in the thread.

What would be the best way to send it to you? Discord, email, or another method?

Hello, I think this idea is very interesting. I’m an ambient music artist and was wondering if my work is something you would be interested in. My Discord username is “viitundra”. I can send you reference tracks on there to show you what I can offer. I’m not sure about what you have in mind, but ambient background music always seems to work for these types of games.

Update about the game. The concept art I used above are all AI generated and very detailed. They are meants to be visual guides at most. The idea is not to make the game beautiful. It's the game mechanics and "soul" of the game that matters. The game can look like this as long as it's fun to play =)
