Trojan on your file?

I'm trying to download version 5 but windows defenders stops the download telling me there's a trojan in the download.

Huh. I can’t imagine how there would be, but I guess I’ll run some scans on it? Thanks for the heads up.

I did both a system scan and directed scan at the game files with Windows Defender and it came up with nothing — I think yours might just be more sensitive about running files from having downloaded them from the internet. I need to eventually pay Microsoft’s fee and set up app registration/code signing but it’s a huge chore so haven’t yet. Until then, you may have more luck if you download the game through the itch.io app.

Just so you know, the most recent version (1.3.3) came up in Windows Defender with "LancerTactics_Verbose.console.exe.lnk" flagging as "Trojan:Win32/Sonbokli.A!cl". This was on Windows 11. This occurs after the folder is extracted. I know that there probably isn't much you can do about false positives, but I wanted to make you aware.

If you add the microsoft website to the front of the following, this is the specific page for this "threat" /en-us/wdsi/threats/malware-encyclopedia-description?name=Trojan%3AWin32%2FSonbokli.A!cl&threatid=2147728983

Thanks for the heads up! I’ll take another look at seeing how I can verify/sign the downloads with microsoft.

(For the record, that exe.lnk just opens the game with some extra commands to show the console in an external window while running — if you’re concerned or if Defender keeps hassling you about it, you can leave it un-extracted or delete it and the game will still run fine normally.)
