Is there any particular episode one might recommend if we wanted to get Jeff's thoughts on solo super hero game design?

great question, I'll try to dig in and ask around, but from some further discussion on blue sky here were some thoughts on superhero representation in tabletop:

SO much of it is either "serial numbers filed off" pastiche (Here's Dr. Badtimes, nemesis of the Awesome Five) or winking surface level tropes (lasers! Ninjas! Mad Scientists! Multiverse!)

A supers game needs to wield its genre to say something about the world or to push the genre forward, even if only a little bit. It can’t just be about, like, balancing Superman and Batman’s power levels so they can be equally combat effective or having a move for meeting your clone

my beef with so much genre emulation stuff exactly. too much focus on aping tropes, not enough getting under the hood and seeing what that can do.

so as far as superhero representation in these games, I think the focus is less on their abilities/stats/the idea of playing as a person with superpowers and focusing more on like what their role is in society, how are they treated, what makes them who they are, why be a hero at all, etc.

as for the tactical elements, solo elements, actual game mechanics stuff, I'd say just do you! party of one has hundreds of episodes and it'd be so hard to narrow down a particular playstyle or framework that is "best" so I think just make games the way you make games and the rest will fall into place :)

I don't remember if there's one specific episode where Jeff really dug into his general philosophy, but the best starting point would likely be the See Issue X or Friendly Neighborhood Superhero episodes.
