Description
This soundtrack is for a game idea that's been bouncing around in my head for a bit: you awaken in a world where almost all of humanity has vanished. You eventually learn that the Gods are displeased with humanity, and intend to remove all trace of them in a week's time. You have to navigate this world, speaking with various mythological creatures (who only just emerged now that humanity won't hunt them down), and trying to find a way to plead humanity's case to the Gods.

"Fruit Fly" is the soundtrack for the first friendly face you meet, a fruit fly who seems capable of speech. The fly tells you about humanity's disappearance, and about the incredibly time constraints you're under.

"Nightfall" is for the first time the sun sets on this desolate world, and the fantastical creatures emerge from the shadows, no longer forced into hiding.

"Steps of Olympus" is near the climax, where you have finally found your way to the Gods, but need to endure the challenges it takes to reach their home.

The glockenspiel melody for "Nightfall" had been brewing in my head for a bit, but otherwise, everything else was composed after the beginning of the Jam. I used Logic Pro to record, and used a combination of my MIDI controller and a Yamaha synthesizer for the instruments.

Theme

Songs of a Forgotten World

How does it fit the theme?
Humanity has been purged, and the creatures of fantasy and myth that were once forgotten are now able to roam free. Humanity is forgotten, and the myths that WERE forgotten return to center stage.

Love the mallet work. Mallets are not used often enough, even in video games.

Fruit Fly

I enjoyed listening to this nice little marimba track. One thing I would suggest would be to either introduce silence in the bass or change the notes instead of holding the same note the whole time.

Nightfall

When the bass came in, I was very unsure of where it was heading and I felt like it detracted from the song. Once the lead came in, the context was clearer than it was, so that's good. One thing I would suggest would be to change the bass layer or introduce a softer and more gentle sub-bass and then add on later in a climactic part of the song. This would allow me to hear where the song is going to go. I also just found the bass difficult to tell what note its playing without context.

Steps of Olympus

I love 7/8! When I first heard this song, it reminded me a little bit of Stone Story's OST composed by Moonsailor. Anyways, I only have a couple criticisms for this one. I noticed that the harpsichord was clipping a lot on the higher notes, resulting in a harsh auditory artifact. Either lower the volume or apply a limiter to cut out the frequencies causing the clippings to happen. I also found the flute to be a tad too dry, so a slight reverb would help boost the space a ton. You can also fill in the emptiness with a soft lush pad.

Thanks WhoIsCthulhu for your submission!

Neat submission! There are some fun melodies in here. Though some parts of the mix (bass especially) could use some panning/variation to sound more natural.
