Hi everyone.
I’m working on an early Unity prototype for a game called RiftLab, a modular creature-crafting RPG focused on building monsters from separate body parts and using them in tactical turn-based combat.
The core idea is that creatures are built from parts such as:
- Head
- Torso
- Arms
- Legs
Each part can affect stats, abilities and combat role. The game also has three main visual/gameplay origins:
- TECH: steampunk / industrial / artificial evolution
- FERAL: mutation / biological adaptation / overgrown ecosystems
- OCCULT: rituals / forbidden knowledge / unstable dimensional energy
My main role is programming and systems design. I’m currently building the gameplay foundation in Unity, including:
- modular monster parts
- part-based combat
- abilities
- data tables
- elemental effects
- progression structure
The area where I’m looking for help is the visual side.
I’m looking for a 2D artist, creature designer or concept artist who might be interested in joining the project at this early stage as a portfolio-focused collaboration.
This could involve:
- creature concepts
- modular body part designs
- monster silhouettes
- visual exploration for TECH / FERAL / OCCULT
- early reference art
- rough UI direction
- helping define the overall art style
The current direction I have in mind is dark cartoon / stylized, with strong silhouettes, readable shapes, weird monster anatomy, biomechanical parts, occult elements and a slightly grotesque but not fully realistic horror look.
I’m not looking for someone to produce hundreds of polished assets immediately. At this stage, the most useful thing would be concept sketches, visual exploration and helping shape the identity of the project while I continue building the playable prototype.
This is not a paid position right now, since the project is still very early. The goal would be a hobby / portfolio collaboration for now. If RiftLab ever grows into a commercial release later, proper credit and future terms would need to be discussed clearly and written down before moving forward commercially.
I’m based in Spain, but I can communicate in English without issues, so international collaboration is completely fine.
If you like creature design, modular monsters, tactical RPG systems, dark cartoon art or strange body-part-based creatures, feel free to reach out.
I can also share more details about the current systems, references and development progress if needed.
I have already started documenting the project and building the internal data/combat structure, so this is not just an idea-only project, this is just for the most interested: https://www.patreon.com/c/Vulkandev
