Post your feedback about the jam itself here. Any feedback you want to share will be useful, and I’m especially interested to see answers to the following:

  1. Fun. Was this jam theme actually fun to try to write for?

  2. Resources. Were the list of resources (list of astronaut RPGs, astronaut inspirations, and other community resources) actually useful? What was missing, or wish was included?

  3. Time & Support. Do you feel like you had adequate time and support to make your astronaut mission? How could I have better helped you in making your mission?

  4. Judging. Were the 4 criteria (legibility, design, aesthetics, and astronaut theme/applicability) useful criteria for judging others’ missions and interpreting the feedback you received?

  5. The future. What should I change about the jam when I run the next one?

Hi:)

1. ENORMOUSLY fun to do. This spurred me to work with a great collaborator I hope to work with again and it felt like an alternate angle into the game that worked really for me, as this sort of SF is something I'm really fond of. Thanks for putting it together:)

2. These helped a lot and I honestly wonder whether there's something further to be done here. A lot of the work I've done in the past, across TTRPG and  academia, has been driven by explorable resource lists like this. I wonder if there's some worth in opening this to various people to add further material to and maybe publishing as a Primer of sorts. 'Want to run astronaut missions? Here's some good inspiration'. that sort of thing.

3. The only person who put me under time pressure on this one was me. I think the time limit worked fine and the support worked GREAT.

4. This is where things get a little complex for me. There's no way for this to not sound like sour grapes, so please believe me when I say it's not, I feel like the criteria and the feedback (And I'm aware, and grateful that I flicked the PLEASE BE NICE switch) and the scores have a small gap between them. We only got two reviews, and while both were useful (And this was my first time:)) it was a bit disheartening to come in last. Especially as (And I know everyone works differently and I respect that) I worked my ass off to review as many other entries as possible. I also suspect my approach to the game and game design may not have helped. I've always been taught to offer a bunch of options, and I think Mothership both demands and rewards specificity.

5. I think it's less change and more expansion. Some more time for reviews would be great and building out the references would be fun too. This worked GREAT, and it's such a strong foundation for another iteration.

Like I say, I had a blast doing this and I'll definitely be back. Someone's got to come  in last, this time it was my turn:)

Yeah, it’s absolutely disheartening to get comparatively little feedback on something you work hard on (and absolutely deserves more attention). Part of that is because the rating queue seems completely random, and randomly under-assigned your mission (and a few others).

One change I want to implement next time is to personally assign everyone missions to rate. That way, we can guarantee everyone gets equal attention (and we aren’t reliant on itch,io’s dicerolls). Do you think mandating a balanced spread of people rating missions would address this issue?

oh shit I had no idea it randomly under assigned! How weird! And yeah I think mandating a balanced spread would work.
