Hi :)

We’re NothingCereal, an international indie game studio currently working on a 2D pixel-art game in Unity and we’re looking for a few more people to join us as we push toward completing our vertical slice/demo.

We’re currently developing a narrative-driven 2D pixel-art adventure in Unity, experienced through the eyes of a stray cat trying to survive in a city that hasn’t always been kind to him. But underneath that seemingly simple premise is a much more personal story about fear, vulnerability, trust and what it takes to feel safe again.

During the day, Leo navigates the real world. At night, those fears become something else entirely and the further you get into his story, the more you begin to understand that not everything is quite what it first appears to be.

We don’t want to reveal too much about the game publicly yet, but the project is already well into development with an established team, clear team structure and an active build in progress. Our next major goal is to finish a strong vertical slice and take the game to publishers for funding.

Right now, we’re a remote team of 9 people working across different countries. We have an art team, design/narrative team, development team, producer and marketing/social media already in place.

Who we’re looking for:

  • Gameplay Developer (Unity) - Someone comfortable implementing gameplay systems, mechanics, interactions and helping bring designs from paper into the actual game.
  • UI Developer (Unity) - Someone who is comfortable implementing and polishing game UI, menus, HUD elements, interactions and related systems.

For the Unity roles, we’re ideally looking for people who already have some practical experience and are past the complete-beginner/junior stage. You absolutely do not need to be a senior developer, but we need people who can work fairly independently, communicate when they’re blocked and contribute to an existing project/codebase.

Our development team currently consists of our CTO/Tech Lead, who is also our senior developer, and another developer. New programmers would work directly with the Tech Lead.

The studio is fully remote and our working language is English. We have biweekly full-team meetings, while individual teams arrange additional meetings with their team leads when needed. We use Discord for all of the communication.

Compensation & long-term plans

At the moment, this is a rev-share position. We do not currently have a salary budget and we want to be completely transparent about that from the beginning.

Our current goal is to finish the vertical slice/demo and approach publishers for development funding. If we find the right people, we’re very interested in having them stay with NothingCereal long-term, including on future projects. However, if someone is only able to commit throughout the first game, we’re open to discussing that too.

We’re looking for people who want to be part of an actual team rather than simply pick up a random task and disappear afterwards. Communication, reliability and being comfortable collaborating with people from different disciplines matter a lot to us.

NothingCereal is aninclusive international team and people from different countries, backgrounds, identities and life experiences are very welcome here. What matters to us is how you work with people, what you bring to the project and whether we’re a good fit for each other.

If this sounds interesting, feel free to message me with a little about yourself, what role you’re interested in, your experience/portfolio or previous projects if you have them and roughly how much time you could realistically contribute.

Happy to share more information about the game and the team privately with people who seem like a potential fit :)
