Reworking Entries?

Now that the jam is over and the showcase is completed, I definitely feel I could rework my entry (Wargle’s Wayward Wood) to clearer and more fleshed out.

Anyone else planning to rework theirs as well?

This challenge was really great with its premise for a short time limit and page limit. This jam has definitely been a good experience and I definitely want to polish this out to be at the level of quality of my other stuff. Will always remain at PWYW.

The biggest gimmick of this adventure—appearing at random areas in the wood after leaving a cavern—was located with the cavern area section.

While this made sense to me when creating it (as that area is where those things actually happen), it probably would’ve have been better suited between the adventure intro and location/dungeon sections. That’s probably the biggest reason it was assumed I didn’t utilize any randomization when it was being showcased.

Additionally, I probably should have made Wargle’s Abode a location “Area 0” instead of “Area 9”, as the challenge is accepted and thus begins there. Whereas in its current state, I could see someone assuming the PCs start at “Area 1” with the Treant whose daughter is lost.

Finally, I feel like I could flesh out Wargle and Lefantithos a bit more, and better explain their issues and how Wargle is keeping the dragon away from her old lair (probably some power with the Wargle Token).

I had considered doing some more work on mine. Mostly, I had to cut descriptions of the areas to meet page count and time constraints, so that is definitely something. Plus, my adventure generator system works best with multiple different 'quests' (re: storylines to play), and I only wrote a basic one.

I was hoping for some feedback on other ways I could improve this, but it's ok. I don't know when I will get to work on this project again soon, but I'd like to.

The premise of using playing cards to generate a random forest map to explore is a really cool idea. Would definitely be neat to see that fleshed out more.

I'm thinking of doing a 1.1 post-jam version, yeah - I'm happy with my adventure, but some things could be fleshed out a bit, like actually providing a proper map for the Old Laboratory dungeon (Red Mage was complimentary of the abstract map I put together but I only did it to save space) or the major locations like Vym and the spider hive, and maybe add some art for things like the Tongueless, since I don't have to worry about running out of space anymore. I'd like to translate The Tongues of Vym to my native Polish eventually, so that would be a good time to move things around and polish (get it?) stuff ever so slightly.

Yeah, your adventure is really cool. I like the idea of the toungeless and mystery of the adventure. Would definitely like to see the expanded version of this.

Overally, I feel the same way with mine. Happy with the overall product, but can see where I needed to add or revise things. I pretty much made the adventure a bit more clear by relocating some information to different parts of the adventure. I think had it not been for the livestream and the small tidbit where the entire randomization aspect of my adventure was missed, I wouldn't have gone back to see how I could revise the adventure.

I'm glad to hear you liked it! It might be a while, because I'm working on a module for a Polish Liminal Horror jam, but I'll get to it eventually. Good luck with your adventure! ;)

I've updated my project with my "Redux" version of the adventure. It's reformatted to be clearer and expands of some aspects of the adventure as well. Hope everyone that downloaded the original version from the jam has a chance to check the Redux out, though I totally get it if that's not possible.
