what exactly is the devlog category is it like a a documentation of how your game is made?
Question: What is a devlog?
A blog, diary or vlog chronicling the development processes of your game.
This can be a blog, a video, your daily schedule of the jam, some text or a short story telling us how you made the game, what difficulties you had during the jam and how you solved them. Or an explanation of some of your key game mechanics. How did you come up with them or how did you implement them. Or what you think are important learning milestones for us. It does not have to be much. Every information you can share will be helpful for us to learn to make better games that are more fun for the players.
A Devlog can be for example: a daily devlog what you did, but can also be describing a problem that you had to solve for the game or explaining how you implemented a special game mechanic for the Jam etc. It can also be a Postmortem or just everything combined or multiple problems, mechanics.
You can also use video to make your devlog/blog.
For our jam, the Devlog category is completely optional. You do not have to participate in this category to enter the jam. However, if you do submit a devlog, you have a chance to win an additional Devlog prize.
The Devlog submission deadline is a few days after the main game submission deadline, so you do not have to spend valuable game development time writing or recording it during the jam. You can finish your game first and use the extra time afterwards to create your devlog.
Tip: use images and/or video to help the reader understand what you did.
