Very fun and very expandable, I really enjoyed the exploration part and getting lost in the random generated levels
I'm also not a horror fan, but this "cutsie horror" is kinda cool. I also liked the shadows effect. Is that a special shader of yourself?
I did not make it to the crystal key and always died of hunger. Sometimes I seem to find stuff like chicken, then I see them on the top-right below the doughnots, but that does not seem to help. Do I have to eat them explicitly? Maybe it's a stupid question, but how can I eat them?
I also did not get that "you can only see it (i guess the crystal key)" in the flashlight. If I leave the flashlight on all the time, it's soon empty - sure "only use it when needed" - but when do I know when is a good time? Also seems like stupid questions, sorry ;-) Is the crystal something hidden between other stuff and that is the reason why you need the flashlight to let it sparkle?
Please give me some hints to my stupid questions, so I can try again.
Play mechanics and feel is really nice! Keep going, there is a road. :-)
Thank you so much for the detailed feedback! And those aren't stupid questions at all :) In fact, it's really useful for me to know which mechanics weren't clear enough without an explanation.
The items that appear below the doughnuts (the hunger bar) are actually a list of ingredients. You can find them in chests and use them to craft different kinds of food. In the tutorial level, you need to reach the shelter first, where you'll find a special microwave that you can use for cooking. Different foods give you different buffs, including restoring your hunger. But don't use up all your food — you'll also need some of it to upgrade your character later on :)
As for the Crystal Key, you're on the right track! It can only be seen in the light of your flashlight, but the crystal itself is always somewhere in the fog. So once you reach a foggy area, that's when you should start looking around carefully with the flashlight. In the tutorial level specifically, you'll find it behind a door that you need to unlock with a key. Your feedback made me realize that the game probably doesn't communicate this clearly enough.
And no need to apologize for the questions — if a player isn't sure how something works, that's useful feedback for me as the developer :)
About the shadows: if you mean the reduced visibility behind the player, then yes — that shadow effect is made with a custom shader I created for the game :)
Thanks again for playing and for taking the time to write such detailed feedback! I'm really glad you enjoyed the mechanics and overall feel of the game. Hopefully these hints will help on your next attempt! :)
Thx for the many clarifications. I found the shelter and therein the microwave, but that stupid thingy did not tell me what I have to do with what and how to get food out of the food that I have ;-)
I guess, I have to try again.
Regarding the shader: I meant the shadows that appear at corners/edges (above the player) and move depending on where you are moving.
Hmm, that's strange — the first time you open the crafting menu, it should normally give you instructions explaining how it works. Maybe if you reach it after finding the crystal, everything will trigger properly... I'll think about how to make the tutorial clearer and less prone to breaking, and I'll improve it in the next demo update :)
Ah, now I know exactly which shadows you mean! Yes, that's the custom shader I made for the game :) I'm glad you noticed it!
I liked the graphics of the game. Although I couldn't complete it because for some reason the exit didn't work, I liked the game itself. It kept me on edge. I hate horror games, but it still has nothing to do with the theme of this game jam. But the game turned out to be interesting and good. I personally liked it. Great job.
Thank you so much for playing and for the feedback! I'm really glad you enjoyed the atmosphere, especially considering you don't usually like horror games :) I'm sorry you ran into an issue with the exit — I'll look into what might have caused that. As for the Moon theme, there actually is a moon visible through the window in the player's room — admittedly, it's a pretty small detail :)
Thanks again for giving Doughborn a try!
Thanks again for pointing this out! I found the issue with the exit portal in the web version and fixed it. The demo can now be completed!
