gr8 concpt & jam but i wuz suprised to see only 4 submissions. until i saw the ai policy . all the entries so far seem ai generated too. this might be pushing away artists/gamdevs who make stuff w thought n effort behind it. observation ig cuz i thought the theme wuz cool but this is disappointing

Good timing these are in fact the last jams we’re doing where AI is allowed! All going forward are No AI allowed. We’d had a few hopeful cases where devs that relied on AI saw what others were doing and were inspired to make their own art and learn. And we’d hoped for more of that energy. But you’re right and we’ve never liked AI and it’s not longer tolerated here. These current jams will stay as is to be fair.

yah im happy u guys agree ! tho i mean i think ppl who use ai can still see wut others are doing and get inspired even if the jam has a no ai rule (generative ai/llms specificlly) cuz I assume even ppl using ai for their gamez are inspired by games that were made by ppl .

obvs ppl can learn but i think the issue is the allowing smth that litrlly steals from artists, its major corps r litrlly owned mainly by facists & is harmful to the environment (every1 say bye byeee to clean drinking water in like 8 yrs unless smth changes) u allow for a space that most creatives probs dont rlly want to be in. anywayz its ok if ppl cant draw or dont wanna cuz theres a lotta free assets/character makers made by ppl etc n ig u guys could link that/mention that in ur no ai rule if u wanted to .  even on itchio alone under the assets tag theres a lot of stuff

AI generated assets have already been banned from any future game jams hosted by us. This specific game jam already started by the time the decision to ban AI generated assets was made, so we decided it wouldn't be fair to change the rules of the game jam in the middle of it.

Month of Horror #2 and following game jams already had their rules updated to reflect our new policy of banning AI generated assets.

Our original policy required the games with AI generated assets to disclose their use of generative AI during the submission, which allowed people to "filter out" submissions containing AI generated assets if they wished to.

We always discouraged the use of generative AI, viewing it as something beginners would use as placeholders sometime, before hopefully moving on from it. In that time, submissions with AI generated assets were mostly limited to one part of the game, like AI generated voice acting or a few AI generated posters, for which we felt a generative AI disclosure requirement like on Steam was sufficient.

However, the nature of generative AI and its uses in game development has changed a lot during the last year, as well as the frequency of mostly AI generated games. As such, we have decided that the best way forward is to finally ban AI generated assets from our subsequent game jams.

As for the amount of submissions, there are still four days left, two of those are weekend days. The vast majority of game jam submissions are submitted during the last two days, so we do expect there to be more submissions.

idk why ppl wuld absolutely need to use gen ai as a placeholder when theres plenty of images online (n voice clips). and generative ai voice actign n images r still made off mostly works of creatives who did not consent 2 it

You are absolutely right about that, but people did it anyway.

Back then, we have decided to let those people submit their games to the game jam, so long as they disclosed that their games contain AI generated assets like on stem. Our community's feedback for those games then tried to point them towards other sources of free to use assets, without the use of generative AI. I know of a few game devs who have since stopped using AI generated assets through this approach.

However, this approach is no longer feasible with the recently increase in completely AI generated games (and even AI generated game reviews) and we have thus decided to ban AI generated assets from all of our future game jams.
