It’s really impressive that the entire game was made by just one person! The game shows a lot of creativity, especially in its art direction and gameplay ideas.
Aside from the collision box issue that others have already mentioned, there are two things I’d like to point out. First, the main character is shown carrying a gun, but it never seems to be used, which feels like a bit of a missed opportunity! Second, unless I missed something, the character doesn’t seem to be able to move left or right. This makes the issue with the game’s scale and screen size a little more noticeable during gameplay.
Overall, though, this is a pretty solid first game, especially for a solo project. I hope you keep making games, and I’m looking forward to seeing what you create next!
Okay. I realize this is described as a "rage game," so I won't get too into the details of the gameplay... such as it is. I had to stop playing because it was hurting my arm (old injury, I can't mash keys like that for very long). All I'll say on that front is, the player's hurtbox is very large. You could do your players a kindness and make it smaller. Often I would get clipped by a collision box while our sprites were nowhere close to touching.
As for the goals of the Jam, the game is not running in 160x144 resolution, so that's a miss. It's also not very Gameboy-esque. And, despite the name of the game, I couldn't really say it felt like it was actually about a pirate.
that's for sure, be proud of a successful jam!
