How does your game meet GBJam's theme
The game is unfinished, but the concept of the game was intended to be about a game boy robot created by a scientist called Dr. Brew. Dr. Brew sends his game boy robot into an abandoned game store in search of the last copy of an unreleased game.

Legend says only one last golden cartridge survived before the game studio was tragically destroyed by a fire.

Lol, I really like the story about the homebrew scene. It reminded me of people tracking down those mobile-only Mega Man Battle Network games locked to old Japanese flip phones. Great premise, and a smart take on “Old Gold” for a homebrew jam.

There was something really hopeful about the chord progression in the music. I kept expecting it to build into something bigger, because that’s where it felt like it was heading.

I also like the idea of a sentient Game Boy. If you wanted to ham it up, you could work in accessories too. Maybe it gets a Game Boy Camera to stun enemies, or uses a Link Cable like a whip.

One small art note: the eye shape reads a little like a skull socket, which makes the Game Boy look slightly ghoulish. Rounding the eyes out might make the character feel friendlier.

Funny game, good entry.

I drew over the eyes to show what i mean.

Great job getting this many systems all up and operational in the jam! Hopefully you learnt some useful things. The game itself is a cool platformer! I loved your character design.

A simple platformer, I just think the acceleration in movement does more bad than good to the gameplay.

Cool concept!

A fellow game dev with the GB being a playable character, eh?

Great minds think alike! :D

Really digging the player character's design! And you even gave it a back sprite - a nice little attention to detail!

It would be cool to see this eventually finished - with some twists and additional mechanics + obstacles as the player progresses.

Keep up the good work! :D

Really cool concept! it was fun to play, enjoyed the gameplay with smooth movements and animations. Music set the right mood and the background story got me really wondering about the last golden cartridge. Also liked that GB-01 is somewhat like me, GB-C haha

Great work!

Thank you so much man! I'm so happy you liked it!
Yeah, he is like you, but not as much colorful haha

Fun little experience! Short but competently made and without any bugs. The little guy is cute and the story is on theme! Even unfinished as you say it deserves five stars for Gameboy Soul! Well done!

" He looks so timid. I want to reassure him... 💔 "

Cute and competent! The last level was a little tricky, especially with having to remember that spike pit below the key, but it was doable after a couple of attempts. Excellent expressive design on the characters!

Congratulations on the submission! 🎉

Really enjoyed this submission even though you stated it as unfinished. Music was fitting and I especially liked the Gameboy console being the player character running around the level. Nice submission even in it's unfinished state!

I liked the story behind it (how you interpreted the secondary theme) and the general gameplay, minimalistic and enjoyable, great work!

it’s  always good to submit something in a Jam even if it isn’t complete. You’ve got a really nice start here. I loved the main character sprite, great art overall.
