How does the game fit the theme?
It is based on the real history of the Falkland slands - the player disposes of the last 10 mines. There is celebration after clearing the mines. As a role playing game there is a leveling up system too.

Thank you to everyone who rated the game high on the creativity criteria! It means a lot to me and it encourages me to continue working on the custom engine.

I've uploaded a new version of the game which contains many accessibility additions: https://beseda.itch.io/last-mine/devlog/1675766/1-post-jam-update

Stay tuned for the next game which is planned for release by the end of the month: Phronesis Petroleum.

I wish you a bright day!

Creative mechanic and the history is fascinating!

Minor issue:  the resolution scaling doesn't seem to be working so I had to switch monitors. People without really wide screens might have trouble playing?

Edit: Never mind, you can also adjust the browser zoom, but I'd double check your project settings I think itch has an option to prevent this.

Developer

Thank you for playing!

The resolution does not adapt because for some reason the map(s) gets cut when when the resolution changes. My apologies for the inconvenience.

I love the concept! At the begining it's a bit difficult, but then it's pretty fun. :D

Thanks for recommending your game to me! I played it for about 20–30 minutes. I found the concept of the dialogue system very original, although I have to admit that I had some trouble understanding how it worked.

I noticed two small issues that might be useful to you:

  • The interaction area around the characters seemed very small. Several times, I thought a character couldn't be interacted with when I simply wasn't standing close enough or in exactly the right spot.
  • After changing areas, my character ended up stuck behind a house and I couldn't move anymore. I think I was still moving when the map changed, so my movement may have continued during the transition.

That's where I stopped playing, but I still watched the rest of the game on SinsRay's stream to see the parts I wasn't able to reach myself. :)

Thanks again for your feedback on my game, and good luck with the jam!

Developer

Thank you, Arreles.

I am going to make the interaction area larger.

And I'll start troubleshooting the transition between the levels - I guess it escaped my playtests because I know when the area is going to change and  don't make the character move. :D

It's quite complicated to grasp in the beginning, but honestly, this game reminds me a lot of deduction-based board/card games like Coup and such. It takes some thinking and strategising, and I really appreciate that! I love to see depth in the games I play, not just haha number goes brrrr (which is also satisfying), but this is a nice change. I don't know much about history, but it's always been something that fascinates me. Well done!

This is the most unique submission I've seen in the jam so far. Turn based conversation battle is a genre I've not really encountered (Ace Attorney inspired maybe?)  I also like that it has learning in a natural (non-forced) way.  I'm taking you at your word that the information is accurate, haha.

Potential Bug issue:  a couple of times the conversation just had a one word emotion/description. That might be unintentional but I'm not sure.

For Level 2 (the village) and 3 (the penguin), I couldn't figure out what I need to do. I want to go back and try it, could you explain it to me?

Thank you for the history lesson and the chance to play your game.

Thank you for playing! I'm glad that you appreciate that I am trying to do something new! It's more than conversation battle - I'm attempting to simulate the entire spectrum of dialog nuances. Progress is slow but steady. Most of the inspirations are actually academic articles on etnomethodology and conversation analysis (yes, there is such a science!). Some of the inspirations from the gaming industry are: Draw Steel TTRPG negotiation, Child of Light queue system, Deus Ex Human Revolution, Griftlands.

Level 2 unfortunately I did not manage to complete it. So there is a shortcut - as long as you use the Reengage you are going to advance to level 3 no matter if you reach the end of the progression or not.

Level 3 - when you hear the sound signal and see the red circle at the top of the page, press the key [E] to dig the mine. Then click on it to detonate it. No pengiun was hurt during the making of this game ;)

About the accuracy - I was doing research on the setting throughout the jam and made a lot of effort to be faithful:

The Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention is a real thing. The dates are true - it started around 2009 and continued until 2020. The company logos (BacTec, Fenix Insight) are the actual logos.

The design for level 2 is to represent people being skeptical about how safe it would be. They had a total of 77 kilometres (48 mi) of fences and many preferred to leave them. You will find that the demining groups themselves avoid making guarantees.

Congrats on the game, my friend! It’s an interesting concept. My internet connection here is weak, but I was still able to play a bit. I really liked the dialogue system—that’s something I still need to try implementing in my own little games, haha. Seriously, congratulations!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing! You're free to draw some inspiration from it but be mindful that I am protecting the design. Is there anything in particular that you appreciate? Or is the system as a whole appealing?

Hey! The concept of this is really good! And it sound interesting because it is based on real history! But It would be better if you have added some audio in it! Also i everytime have to scroll a lot which ruins the experience.

Developer(+1)

Hey, Vishwajeet, thank you for playing. There is sound - it is disabled by default and you have to turn it on from the settings menu.

About the high resolution (1920x1080p) - you can set the zoom level of the web page.

I'm curious to know your thoughts on the dialog system.
