Football manager in the browser: is the live match screen easy to read?

Hi! I am working on Global Football Manager 2026-2027, a free browser football management game: https://gfm-2026.itch.io/global-football-manager2026-2027

You pick a club from 87 leagues, set tactics, make transfers and watch matches play out on a live 2D pitch. I just reworked the live match screen and the transfer system, and I would love honest feedback on these points:

  1. First 10 minutes: is it clear what to do after picking a club? Where did you get lost?
  2. Live match screen: is it easy to read? Do the player names, ratings and Fit values on the pitch help, or is it too busy?
  3. Tactics: do your tactical changes feel like they make a difference in the match?
  4. Transfers: is the contract negotiation step clear, and do the transfer fees feel fair?
  5. Performance: does it run smoothly on your device (especially on mobile)?

Even a short answer to one question helps a lot. Thanks for your time!

Only the live match screen question, and only from your newest store screenshot (the 38' Lion Istanbul v Ankara one). I didn't play it. (I write with AI help and we're building a football game ourselves, so weigh that.)

It's too busy for its size. The pitch is about 510×300 of a 1600×900 capture, roughly a tenth of the screen, and it carries 66 labels: name, rating and Fit for all 22 players. Names are about 5px tall there. Your page embed is 640×360, so in the default view they're about 2px.

Labels collide. K. Koç's "Fit:9…" is cut off by O. Şen's rating badge at the centre spot, and I. Acar's and O. Kurt's labels run together into one row.

The rating colour says little. Red covers everything from 5.6 to 6.2, so most of both teams are red at 38'.

Suggestion: on the pitch, show only the number, and add Fit only when it drops below a threshold. That's the moment it matters. Your Stats tab already shows the full table. And if the pitch can take more of the screen, the commentary column is the cheapest space to borrow.

Hey there! Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a detailed and spot-on review. It's really motivating to see that you dug into the mechanics and are enjoying the core concept. Your points on how tactics translate to the pitch and the negotiation-based transfer system are spot-on, as those are areas we've put a lot of focus on.

Regarding the crowding and label overlaps on the live match screen, you are completely right. Similar issues can definitely pop up on mobile devices as well. However, we do want to mention that the game's overall interface is currently optimized primarily for desktop browsers. Once we wrap up the core desktop features, we'll be rolling out comprehensive mobile optimizations and UI refinements—and we will definitely take your suggestion about hover/click interactions and smart filtering into account during that phase.

I will definitely check out Recipe Frenzy when I get a moment and send some feedback your way. Great work on that!

Thanks again for the awesome support and feedback on Global Football Manager! ⚽

Hey GFM 2026! I spent some time checking out Global Football Manager. I really enjoy football and football management games, so the idea behind this project immediately caught my attention.

The number of leagues and clubs is impressive and makes the game feel very ambitious. I like being able to choose a club, build a team, make tactical decisions, manage transfers, and then watch those decisions play out during a match. That combination is a big part of what makes football management games enjoyable. It gives me a reason to care about more than just numbers and menus.

I liked that the live match screen shows the players on the pitch. It makes the match feel like something that is actually happening instead of just displaying a list of events. The player positions also make it easier to understand how the match is developing.

At the same time, the screen can feel a little busy when several players are close together. Player names, ratings, and Fit values can compete for attention, especially during active moments. It might help to keep the most important information visible by default and show the extra details when the player hovers over or selects someone. That could make the screen easier to read without removing the depth.

I also like the idea of tactics having a visible effect during matches. In football management games, it feels much more rewarding when I make a tactical change and can understand how it affects the way the match develops. Even small changes feel more meaningful when the result is visible on the pitch.

The transfer system is another interesting part. Transfers are one of my favorite parts of these games, and being able to negotiate instead of simply pressing a “buy” button makes the process feel more involved.

Overall, Global Football Manager has a lot of potential, especially for people who enjoy football and want to play a management game directly in the browser. I’m curious to see how the management, tactics, and match systems feel during a longer play session.

And, if you have some time, I’d also really appreciate it if you could try my game, Recipe Frenzy, and leave me some feedback.

Good luck!

I'm glad you enjoyed the leagues, clubs, live match screen, tactics, and transfer system. Your suggestions about making the live match screen less crowded are especially helpful. I'm constantly working to improve the gameplay, match experience, and overall user interface, so feedback like yours means a lot to me.

I'll also check out Recipe Frenzy when I get some time and share my thoughts with you.

Thanks again for your support and encouragement! Good luck with Recipe Frenzy, and I wish you all the best with your game development! ⚽😊
