Hi everyone! I've just released Orbital Purgatory, a small one-button arcade game you can play in your browser, on phone or PC.

You orbit a planet and tap to fly to the next one. Skim its surface as you land for a PERFECT and your multiplier climbs. Miss, and it's over.

  • A daily challenge: the same universe for everyone, harder as the week goes on.
  • A weekly prize and a six-week season, with sets you can only win, never buy.
  • Leaderboards checked on the server.

No ads.

t's made by one person and it's my first release here, so any feedback helps a lot.

Play it here: https://enednarf.itch.io/orbitalpurgatory

I had a look at the browser version’s starting screen. Showing the daily difficulty and the number of scored tries before starting is helpful, and the golden-band explanation gives a concrete target for a PERFECT. Is there a practice mode for learning that landing angle without using a scored daily attempt? A tiny illustrated example of an ordinary landing versus a PERFECT could also make the first attempt easier to understand. Congrats on the first release!

Thanks so much for taking the time to write this up, it really means a lot, especially this early on!! :)

Yes, there's a way to practise, the regular mode (the PLAY button) doesn't spend any of your daily tries, so you can play it as much as you like and when your daily tries are gone in the special daily challenge, you can practice that map too but it doesn't count to the ranking score.

The first time you play, there's also a guided tutorial where I tried to explain every mechanic and event in the gameplay. It shows what a PERFECT is less about the angle and more about timing: the guide line in front of your ship changes colour as you orbit, and i fyou tap while it's gold, you skim the next planet's surface.

You've made me realise the start screen doesn't make any of this obvious, though, especially that PLAY is the place to "practise" (also to progress through the story). Also, a tiny illustration of an ordinary landing vs the PERFECT landing is a great idea.

Thank you again for the kind words and the thoughtful feedback!!
