Very nice game and graphics! I really enjoyed it. I had some trouble replacing the battery after my flashlight died. I couldn’t figure out how to replace it, or I just couldn’t find the right way to do it. Overall, I really liked the atmosphere and the idea of the game. Looking forward to seeing how it develops!
Thank you so much for the feedback! I'm really glad you enjoyed the game and its atmosphere :)
Thanks for mentioning the battery issue — I'll check both the battery replacement and the instructions for it to make sure everything works and is clear. I've also received another report about getting stuck on the ladder, so I'll definitely look into that for the next update.
I went back in and used both Chrome and Widows and could load the demo. I got to the point of finding the crystal. Is that where the demo ends because I couldn't locate a crystal? Again, I do not have a joystick which would make moving easier, but even using the keyboard buttons was sufficient. Game reminds me of Mario where he looks for/avoids things so that in itself is not unique. However, I would have kept playing your game to see where it took me.
Thanks for giving the demo another try! :) I'm glad you were able to get it running this time.
Finding the crystal isn't the end of the demo — there's still more to explore after that. Since you played, I've updated the demo and improved the tutorial, so it now gives clearer instructions on how to find the crystal.
Thanks again for coming back to the game and sharing your feedback! :)
The game has a really cool atmosphere. Really interesting project, man! The mechanics are clever, and it runs super smooth in the browser, which is awesome. Solid work for a jam entry, keep it up!
Thank you so much! I'm really glad you enjoyed the atmosphere and mechanics, and it's great to hear that the browser version ran smoothly for you. I really appreciate the feedback! :)
I tried downloading DoughBorn, but unfortunately I couldn't get the downloaded version to run on my Windows PC. I did watch the gameplay video so I could at least see how the game works. The atmosphere and pixel-art presentation look very impressive. I wasn't able to play enough to give you fair feedback on the gameplay itself.
Thanks for letting me know, and thanks for taking the time to check out the gameplay video! I'm glad you liked the atmosphere and pixel art :)
That's strange — I haven't been able to reproduce this issue with the Windows version so far, but I'll keep an eye on it. If you get a chance, you can also try the browser version, which lets you play the demo directly on itch.io without downloading anything. If you remember what happened when you tried to launch it (an error message, nothing happening, etc.), I'd really appreciate the details — they might help me figure out what went wrong.
I really enjoyed the simple color-based graphics. The limited colors give the game a nice, clean visual style, and the red claw really stands out. I also really like the WASD + mouse controls. Using the mouse for the claw makes the movement feel different from a typical platformer, and it’s a clever way to make the claw feel like a separate tool rather than just another button. That said, I found the game a little difficult right from the beginning. It took me some time to get used to the movement and the claw, so I think a slightly gentler first level could help players get comfortable with the mechanics before things get harder. Overall, I really like the concept and the feel of the game. The claw mechanic has a lot of potential!
