Gambit Drill: feedback wanted on phone controls and chess training

Hi, I’m Stas, the creator of Gambit Drill. It’s a free chess opening trainer that runs in your phone’s browser. Please test on a phone, as that’s the focus for now.

It currently covers the Scotch Gambit as White and Elephant Gambit as Black, using human-played lines, club-level game examples, and real sources.

Could you try watching one line, then practising it in Train? I’m looking for feedback on:

  • Is it clear how to start and switch between watching and practising?
  • Are the board, buttons, and text comfortable on your phone?
  • Do the explanations help you understand the moves and plan?
  • Are any lines incorrect or common opponent replies missing?
  • Do animations feel smooth? Any bugs, awkward colors, or distracting UI?

You don’t need to answer everything. Just tell me what you tried and where anything felt confusing or awkward. Your phone model and browser would help with bug reports.

Basic training needs no account, API key, or download.

I tried Gambit Drill and really liked the game itself. One thing I think could make it stand out more is the itch.io page. Maybe adding a little more visual structure, like some cute backgrounds, screenshots, GIFs, and a short section explaining the game and how it works, could make the page feel more polished and give visitors a better idea of the game before they play it. :)

It’s a nice little chess trainer.
