Who are all those games on dwarves supposed to be for?

As long as I have been in the gaming industry I constantly saw people making tons and tons and tons of games focused entirely on dwarves, there must be thousands out there. I think first of all this a big problem, for me the gaming industry was supposed to be about inovation, trying new things, taking risks,... All those games on dwarves are essentialy the exact same thing, the same themes, there is nothing new, interesting or even remotely fun for someone not obsessed with dwarves, most to be frank are very very bad.

My explanation is that it's very easy and cheap to make games on dwarves, so lots of people will make them. But those games aside from very very few of them sell very poorly and fail which does make sense because not only do you appeal to dwarf fans only and no one else, and this is a very loud and annoying but not so big fandom, but dwarf fans themselves won't buy dozens of games a month, they may pick a few and ignore the rest.

And again those games never offer anything else aside from dwarves so most people would have no reason to pick them up. I just wonder who those games are supposed to be for anyway? I see many people being sick and tired of this sea of dwarven slop and making their voices heard on top of not buying or even looking at those games, yet game devs seems to live on another world and keep making them. I'm glad ease and repetitive games are not paying off, this is how it should be, now how to make game devs realize this so they can start doing games that are a bit inovative and interesting.

On a sidenote while we get thousands of games on dwarves I cannot find any games on elves, while they are far more interesting and I feel a lot could be done with them, while it would indeed be more complicated than making simple dwarven games. Still there is a demand and they would sell well for sure, so why does no one jump in on this occasion?

As an aspiring Elf, I find Dwarves sexy. Those games are made for me! 😁

On a more serious note, I don't think most devs are just doing it because it's cheap and easy. A lot of them probably like Dwarves and can relate to them. I can relate to Elves better, sure - but Dwarves are super charming in their own way. Look at how handsome this one is too:

Dwarves aren't all that bad imo!

I don't like dwarves but having a few games on them would be fine, we have thousands with more coming out every single months, and they all are the exact same thing. Who is supposed to play and buy all that? Also dwarves are a bit popular sure but elves are far more popular and there are no games on them at all...

I see. Why don't you try your hand at making a game about Elves yourself, then? Maybe one about Elves making toys at the North Pole? If you start now, you can finish developing your game by December, which is a good time to release one about Christmas Elves. 🥰

Back when Xianxia VNs weren't many, I put out a few of them out on my own. Now there are quite a number of them. I got a message on Reddit too saying that my VNs had introduced the user and their partner to Xianxia, a genre that they now love, so making our own stuff does also help to grow interest.

Gotta start somewhere~

It's an aberration that an extremely interesting and popular race like elves have no games on them at all, and it shouldn't be up to me to fix this. Gnomes have a few games on them, elves none.

But if even you, who likes Elves, do not wish to fix this, who will?

I know things will never change but it shouldn't be up to me to make games for such a popular race who also has probably the most potential among the big fantasy races

I wouldn't mind making a game on elves. What type of innovative game and interesting gameplay mechanics are you thinking of?

How long have you been in the games industry NetanyaBK? What was your role?

I know you are mocking me but i case someone else sees this message I'll share just a fraction of what could be done with elves in gaming in my opinion. These games may be more difficult to make  than some random mining game with beer but would be a lot more interesting.

My favourite would be to control a group of savage night/wood elves defending their forests from invaders, turning into creatures, using magic, getting help from the forest.

- Playing as an insanely strong elf warrior who trained for a  thousand years and decimates hordes of enemies in a doomstyle game

- Have a city builder on elves, not only using their connection to nature and their amazing architecture but also the fact the citizens would live for centuries or more and could have many different jobs in  their lives

- Making a game on complex themes about immortality elves explore in frieren for example

There are tons of ideas, its just that nobody ever thinks about elves at all or is willing to try something new

Huh? Why do you think I'm mocking you?

Those are interesting ideas. My first thought would be that elven city builder game.

Still I'd like to hear what part of the gaming industry you have been a part of? I sometimes think of changing my career to work in games, instead of just a hobby.

oh sorry its just that many people don't like it when others bring up the fact we have too many games on dwarves and nothing on elves. Also I never worked in that industry I just used to play games but I don't anymore. If you ever start making games give elves a chance please, so many of us have been waiting for years

Ah okay then. But I find it weird that you open a thread with "As long as I have been in the gaming industry I constantly saw people making... " although you never worked in the game industry. That gives off quite a dishonest impression.

i never claimed i worked in it, just that i played games, went on forums and such
