I see - so the player needs to "drain sheeps" but just not too much so those not become dead. Quite clever and also all themed by with fun. It is like having an adventure but also some strategy building in the same pack.
Some game play improvement ideas here:
- Player would be able to drain sheep until it has a minimum amount of extract left, like; "1hp left sheep".
- Shearer unit; would be the extracter leaving red stuff on the ground, and the collector or player would need to collect these extractions.
- Sheeps would have progress bar on top of them when player attempt to drain those.
- Too easy/too hard to defend if enemies comes always in waves - there could appear some random enemies between waves.
- Shooted projectiles homing toward enemies a bit - from this perspective quite hard to aim direct shots now.
- Only one sheep player can drain at the time; now player may drain 2 or more not equal extraction having sheeps around and some of those others might get dead.
- Turrets could be using ammunition and would be reloaded by shooting them with player projectiles (or by player assistance units).
- Drained sheep corpses could be able to revive within a revival time.
- Player could be able to setup building foundations for sheep/Tower/collector units etc. and insert extraction in those to finish the build while builder units could be help-doing that too, since now player can be only deploying new unit or shooting etc. but not the both.
Thanks for playing, and I really really appreciate the ideas! There's some good insight here and I actually did consider a few of them, or at least along similar lines.
Originally, my idea for the pixie collectors was that they also load the turrets, but I realized it was unecessarily convoluted for a jam. The turrets do use red so they do need ammunition but they just "magically" get it from you.
The shearer idea I do really like - splitting the task of extraction and collection. It would also give the collectors extra reason to transport red to turrets.
Using red as a building resource is really interesting, though splitting focus between building and defense was the main reason for having waves. But if the game were expanded to constructing more types of buildings that's definitely a good way to go about it
Oh no :) At first I was draining every last bit of red from the sheep and couldn't figure out why they stopped moving and producing red. By the time I finally realized what I'd done, there were already about 8 sheep lying in the pen.
The game is visually delicious, and it has a really solid incremental core.
By the way, feel free to play our game, there's a lot of "red" in it too.
Oh no! At least you eventually realized you were a murderer. That's the first step to recovery :P
I was actually really worried about that at first, but I modified it so you're always able to come back from it so it's not a soft lock or game over
And I'll definitely check out your game, just needed a break after the jam :,D
Very cool visuals, fun game loop. Audio would really add to the game and for an incremental game the middle game was pretty steep costwise. I had fun! Thanks for the game!
Thank you for playing. Yeah, every jam I have ambitions that this time I will get to audio...
And sorry about the grind, you would have played it longer than I ever got to while making it so I'm not surprised the balance suffered. I actually massively reduced the cost increase right before shipping, so I'm glad I did that, though it seems that wasn't enough
Amazing art, and good loop.
Just to make sure that i am a good man, my sheep were living a good life.
It really missing the music and sounds, hopefully you can add them later.
Haha, thanks a bunch! And your sheep thank you for being a good man
(I do plan to add sound in a post-jam release)
I love the risk in the main loop: you need red from your sheep, but drain them too far and they become the bats you’re fighting.
That’s a strong theme told through mechanics. Two colours, made solo with no AI, is a striking way to do it. Hope you get to add sound after the jam!
Thanks! Yeah, you got it ;)
I had dreams of adding sound in the jam version... but time is a cruel mistress in a game jam. But I do plan on adding sound in a post jam version, it'll add a lot to the ambience
I really enjoy this game! It's got a wonderful art style and I appreciate that no AI was used.
Thank you! It's funny that just doing it the normal old way is noteworthy, haha, but I guess here we are. I do value the craftmanship that goes into the creation of games ^_^
