HUSHCLAW Update 0.3.0: the Field Archive, night vision, and a reason to come back every day

Every match now leaves you with something.

THE FIELD ARCHIVE

Everything your crew recovers from the dead outposts is a sealed file. Open your files after the match and see what the island was hiding.

How you recovered something decides how rare its file is: a long carry, being hunted on the way, the dark, a storm, Hard difficulty, the whole crew getting out together. Rarities run from Field note to Report, Classified, Restricted and the rare Black file.

A file can hold:

  • A Lead: a contract you take into your next match. Kill nothing. Carry it 400 metres. Fire the flare inside fifteen minutes. Meet it for bonus points and a better file.
  • A page of the Dossier: the story of Outpost Halvard-9's last week, what the Cordon hid, and what the scientists learned too late about what hears us. Finish a chapter to unlock an outfit you can't get any other way.
  • A perk: a different way to play, never a stronger one. Every perk has a cost.
  • A look: an outfit colour your survivor wears in every match.

THE DAILY ISLAND

One island a day, the same island, time and weather for every player. Your first finish each day gives a bonus file. Come back on days in a row to build a streak: every seventh day guarantees a Restricted file.

There's also a Weekly Contract: one hard goal, the same for everyone, once a week.

NIGHT VISION

Night matches are dark now, really dark. Night vision goggles are in the shop during a match: press Tab to open shop, click and buy them, press N, and the forest turns green and grainy. Mind the battery.

FIGHTS THAT FEEL REAL

  • Dinosaurs pick their attack by distance: snaps up close, lunging strikes at the edge of reach.
  • Wind-ups vary, so you can't time them by ear.
  • Raptors sometimes go straight back in.
  • Spikeback and Clubtail turn and swing their tails.
  • Hit something and it flinches. Get bitten and you're thrown back a step.

CARRYING AND THE OUTPOSTS

  • You hold what you recover in both hands now, with your weapon slung across your back.
  • You can walk into the outpost huts. Nothing can be taken through a wall any more.
  • The outposts' beacons beep to lead you in. What you carry stays silent.

AND

  • New How to Play guide on the main menu, and a first-match tutorial (Settings > Replay tutorial to see it again).
  • Settings > Controls lists every key and explains voice chat: it's an open mic by default, so whisper.
  • The leaderboard now shows how often each survivor gets out, what they recover and how much damage they deal to dinosaurs.
  • Teams can change their country.
  • Grass and plants no longer turn black at dusk; the helicopter flies nose first; Vantward Salvage is your employer now.

The boards are young. Finish an online match and you're on them. Make a team, bring your friends, and take the top spot while it's still easy.
