How did you use DreamLayer?
Almost every picture in the game came from DreamLayer. This includes the creature and wizard sprites, the object and trap sprites, the floor and wall textures, and the full-screen backgrounds (title, tower, library, map, options). The only exceptions are a few things generated in code, mostly the original placeholder art and effects.

Sprites: DreamLayer made sheets of grey, front-lit creatures and props, which I cut apart with code. About 120 base creature sprites, 56 object and trap sprites and 7 wizard bodies became roughly 200 distinct monsters and wizards, because code tints each one by its colour or school. Floors come from one texture sheet; code crops it and wrap-blends it into seamless 64px tiles with four variants per terrain.

Backgrounds: made from one shared style brief so the tower, library, map and title screens look like the same place.

It is worth mentioning that this is the second game I made for the jam, using left-over credits from the first, and was squeezed together in just two days (most of the work being done in a single day), so I didn't have quite as many credits or as much time as I would have otherwise! It should therefore be seen as an example of the sort of game DreamLayer lets you make very quickly.

What failed: DreamLayer is not ideal for making tilesets. The images aren't perfectly consistent with each other, and some had to be tweaked. Some of this could probably be worked around if I had more credits to spend and more time, but as mentioned, this was a second game squeezed in for the jam in the last two days.

Before/after sheets are included in the screenshots.

1000+ spells is wild for a jam lol. Love the tower on the title screen. Tinting about 120 base sprites by school to get ~200 monsters is a clever way to stretch the credits
