Hi everyone,
about six months ago I wrote a similar post. A lot of people with great projects reached out back then, but none of them made me say, "Yes, this is the one, I want to give this 100%." On top of that, I ran into some serious health issues, so I decided to hold off on joining or starting a project altogether.
I'm doing well again now and I'd love to build something together with a few people. Whether it's Unreal, Unity or Godot, we can talk about the tech stack once we've agreed on an idea and create a GDD. If we end up releasing something, we'll simply split things fairly. I'm not worrying about that just yet.
My first choice would be a cozy sim or an automation game, but I wouldn't say no to a dungeon crawler or a creature-collecting fantasy game either. Style-wise I'm thinking stylized/low-poly. I definitely want to include co-op, because playing with friends is always the most fun for me.
I put GER/ENG in the title because I'm from Germany and German would make communication easier, but I'm totally fine with English too.
What you should bring:
- Source control experince should be a given
- Basic Blender skills: import/export settings for the engine (.fbx) shouldn't be foreign concepts
- Experience with at least one of the engines mentioned (Unreal, Unity or Godot)
- The ability to read and understand code
- Interest in trying and learning new things
In principle I'm happy to work with any skill level, but in that case I'd like to see real interest in trying things out, understanding them and learning. I know there are a lot of AI tools out there by now, and it's perfectly fine to use them, that's what they're for. But please don't use them blindly: whether it's code, models, animation or rigging, understand what's actually happening!
A bit about me: I'm Alex, 32 by now (damn, I'm getting old), and a trained software developer. I've also worked as a custom cloud developer and have been making games on the side for fun since I was 12.
I see myself as a generalist, since I've done at least a bit of everything, though programming is clearly my strongest area. I'll attach a few references below from before AI was cool time. Happy to share more on request :)
