What draws me in this kind of game is the lore like the story in Warcraft 3, and the real-biology details that anyone who knows animals notices right away in Pokemon. I know the point of these games is escaping the real world, and nothing has to be realistic. But players do enjoy details borrowed from real animals. You can choose how realistic you wanted it to be, I'm just here to give you details and suggestions on how to make your creatures more believable and grounded since games doesn't have to be always following the real life logic of animal biology and anatomy.

Along with this, I will give a brief description of the world and kind of set the scene:

Convergences is set on Kigazdar, a world remade by an entity that established the very laws of the universe to make it beautiful and in perfect order, where creation and destruction are guided by the flow of her Crystalline Water, the eldritch energy that guides the laws of physics, chemistry and creation as a whole. Due to misunderstandings and the unattended need to be recognized by humanity, the entity used the Crystalline Water to reshape life, something that only came to be accidentally with several factors having aligned within the flow of the universe, turned it towards life, having altered processes of evolution so races that exist as dark mirrors of a humanity long gone to mock and torment them, made wrathful gods for each planet, altered living beings and directly changing their biology to create mindless monsters, and bend the rules of the universe she had to created to meddle with the Earth.

Due to a conflict with her son, the entity was killed, letting her Crystalline Water leak from her decomposing body unto Earth, forever altering the living and non-living aspects of it.
