PSA: Both my asset packs got indexed immediately after my first sale

Hey gang!

I just wanted to share my experience with getting my asset packs indexed, in case it helps anyone who's currently stuck waiting.

I make and release themed asset packs on the Unity Asset Store, and recently decided to branch out to itch.io as well.

I published my first asset pack here, but it sat on my profile for about 18 days without being indexed. It wasn't appearing in search results, browse pages, or the Most Recent listings.

Then someone reached out to me, saying they didn't use Unity but would happily buy one of my other packs if I made it available on itch.io. I agreed, prepared the page for that specific pack, and published it.

The person bought the pack, rated it, and left a comment. Within the same day, BOTH of my asset packs got indexed!

Now, I don't know whether it was the purchase, rating, comment, or simply the activity that helped prioritize the indexing process. I had also contacted support on around the 11th day of my first pack's release, and a moderator had forwarded my issue to the admins, so it's possible that played a role too.

Still, the timing would be an insane coincidence, and I thought it was worth sharing.

This is all assuming your project page and publisher profile follow itch.io's guidelines, and the only problem is that indexing is taking longer than expected.

TL;DR: Make sure your project meets the indexing requirements, publish it, and start sharing it with people! Don't wait for itch.io's search system to bring you visitors. Share your project with friends, communities, and potential customers who might be interested. Real visits, downloads, purchases, and feedback may help get your project noticed and prioritized for review.

You don't necessarily need thousands of visitors. In my case, both packs got indexed on the same day that a single customer purchased one of them.

Of course, I can't guarantee this will work for everyone, but hopefully my experience helps someone who's stuck in indexing limbo.

Make some awesome stuff, and have fun!

Interesting... thanks for sharing your tales of the black box :D

Ahaha my pleasure! :D I hope it could at least help some people get their stuff indexed

Thanks for sharing this, really helpful! I’m a game art student in NZ planning to sell PS1 horror asset packs. Could I ask how sales compare between the Unity Asset Store and itch.io for you? And what’s helped people find your packs the most? Thanks!

Hello! Your questions are a bit off topic, but you can send me an email and I'll give you a full reply there!
