This is a really interesting concept, and the game is polished too! I really like the concept of dragging the cursor to form a complete recipe!
Thanks for playing and glad you liked the concept and mechanics
This is a great submission! Really polished, and fun concept, with some really fun music too.
I'm one of those who needs to keep looking back at the book for the recipes, so for players like me, having the legend/recipes one less step away would make it easier for me to memorize the spells. I found myself loading up on tons of skeletons. This incidentally worked pretty ok for most of the fights, so I didn't feel the need/urge for getting too creative with ingredients, which caused my bag to overflow.
Also I loved the intro - perfect, no notes.
Thanks for playing! read throough your review and these are defintily improvements we could make after the jam!
I'm so obsessed with this kind of games, I can keep playing it! The intro and the art are amazing!
Thanks For Playing And Glad You Liked It!
thanks for playing, glad you enjoyed
Awesome everything. Is there an end?
Gladd you thinks its aweosme and theres no ending
Thanks for playing. I consider the “end” to be clearing the bag haha
omg this is super addictive and clever !! I really like the crafting mechanics, maybe other said that but maybe the only thing missing is the possibility to always see what you can craft, bc i get annoyed by opening the book every time (maybe with allowing the player to do one and craft and when he did it show them another etc, so that he can memorize idk)
But this was a really great game !! Art and music and also no bugs found !!
glad you found it addictive and clever 😅 your idea is actually the first I’ve heard but it might be a good QOL of life since usually players just memorize the recipes but if someone has memeory issues it would be really helpful
Ye some of my friends said something similar
Really like the lore intro scene, it really got me into it! Game concept was cool!
thanks for playing and glad to hear you thought our intro and Game concept were cool!
Thanks for playing!
Concept: super clever stuff, I love it! I really like how it combines some turned based strategy aspects with the random fun of the sack combining system. One of the most unique ideas this year for sure!
Gameplay: it's very fun, had a really good time. No bugs either, everything works really well.
The combining system is great, and I really like how smooth it is. I think it's a bit too random though, I felt like I didn't really have any control over the content of the sack, no matter how hard I tried to strategise it. Swords and wands kept piling at the bottom with no way to utilize them. I think some more controlled way of interacting with the sack like the ability to delete some items or shaking it in a specific direction alleviate this.
It's also a bit too easy, I've not lost a single skeleton during the whole game. Never even got to see what the unique kinds of skeletons do because of this, the difficulty should've kept ramping up infinitely I think, maybe even exponentially after some point. Though I know that balancing is a hard to afford luxury with these jams so it's fine.
The instructions should maybe be pushed in the player's face a bit more, I was kinda confused at the beginning before I saw the instructions on the top.
These are not a big deal though, just nitpicks from me, what you have is already very impressive.
Art: the spritework is really good and well polished. Also the opening cinematic is pure gold, please make more of these in the furture Jello.
Audio: pretty good, everything fits well with the gameplay.
Very impressive submission overall, nicely polished with unique and fun gameplay. Congrats!
Thanks for playing and the feedback, appreciate how you divided it into sections!
Thanks for Playing and the In-depth Analysis of our Game :D Speaking in terms of gameplay i agree the game could use balancing work as we were originally going to have enemies scale but ran out of time, seems like you still enjoyed it though :)
10/10 purely for the intro. Great gameplay, got me hooked and trying to find combinations for an hour straight. Nice!
Lol
Thanks for playing and awesome to hear you liked the game!
Really cool concept and nice artwork, feels very polished too! It's pretty satisfying to combine stuff. But I feel like the gameplay could have a bit more depth to it overall. Oh and that intro cutscene... absolute cinema! Thanks for jamming with us :)
Thanks for hosting and playing
Thanks for playing and we were actually thinking about having more depth and recipes but we ran out of time :D
Okay. I think I’ve spent the most time playing this particular game.
I’m not sure if it’s the best one from the game jam, but it’s definitely the most promising candidate for being developed into a full-fledged product. So, please—don’t abandon it!
Ever since *Backpack Hero*, the "inventory-management-as-combat-mechanic" theme has been gaining popularity, but I actually like this particular take on it even more. That’s why I believe it’s worth further development.
Since I’ve played it for quite a while, I have a few thoughts I’d like to share.
What works well: There’s an RNG element that might occasionally force you to restart, but it’s not overly punishing. Once you’ve memorized the recipes and taken a moment to assess the options available in your backpack, the game turns into a really engaging puzzle. Even before hitting 20 runs, I managed to build an incredibly overpowered army. Of course, this poses a significant challenge for game balance—you’ll need to figure out how to reward the player for clever thinking without accidentally stripping the game of its challenge. If you aren’t familiar with the concept, look up "flow channel game design." It’s an important principle to keep in mind—or at least to practice implementing.
Regarding the unit combinations, I have a few more comments:
Perhaps it’s better to avoid letting players build an army of 100 skeletons—especially when, with a bit of luck, none of them even die. (I realize this was the theme of the jam, but just something to consider for the future.) Maybe focus on upgrading them or restoring their health instead? Perhaps for attacking, it would be better to use the sword (without any bindings) and the wand for mages? This way, we could remove individual items from the bag—effectively keeping the attack UI contained within the bag itself. :)
Also, a 10% boost to all stats for having 3 pumpkins is incredibly powerful. I also felt the absence of any "secret" recipes. Since I enjoy experimenting with random combinations, I secretly hoped to discover a recipe not listed in the official book. For instance, what if combining 2 iron, 1 wood, and 3 bones created a skeleton warrior? This would allow players to explore more complex combinations and make better use of the inventory's potential.
Another issue was that there were simply too many items in the inventory; they were overflowing everywhere. At a certain point, I was only looking for pumpkins, focusing exclusively on combinations that would result in a set of 3 pumpkins.
Anyway, that’s all for now! :) Have a great day.
Thanks for playing and the super in-depth review! after reading this I Agree that the game should have these things and also better balancing, the reason for item bloat was mainly time we were planning to have more recipes using the feather and string (which are basically filler items just used for the bow) but ran out!
Ty for playing, glad you enjoyed! Totally agree I think this has a lot of potential, thank you for all of your ideas and in-depth feedback. I’m not the programmer lol but if I was I might implement some of the ideas into the game *hint hint* *wink wink*
The vibes of that intro cutscene are wild! This game really snuck up on me and held my attention for a long time. I'm on round 253, and I don't think it would end any time soon if I let it. Really great work! I could be good to have some way to eliminate really buried items, maybe at the cost of HP, and something to stop the items from bunching up at the top.
Love this!
Thanks for playing and its awesoem but aslo worring to hear how far you have gotten in :D also thanks for the idea on how we coudl possibly fix the overflowing sack issue
This is a solid match-3 game! It was different and not something that I expected, which is refreshing! The intro is also hilarious, so gotta give props to that for sure. I will say that I think there could be more combinations possibly, as I felt as though I had to shake the bag a lot. When I didn't have to shake the bag and would get in the groove, I would have a pretty decent army stockpiled, get through a few waves, and then realize that the bag was extremely full and I would have to shake things out or be very precise in matching as items were overlaying each other, but I did thoroughly enjoy my time with this one. Great Job!
Thanks For Playing! We have heard the bag overflowing being a common issue and are know thinking how we could have fixed that
I think just making a limit on how many items could be in the bag could keep that from happening, but I can also see that that could leave out variety if they got stuck with just a lot of one item or ran out of shakes. I'd love to see what else you could add after fleshing it out a bit more!
Great cutscene lmaooo. I love the concept of the bag and how you summon your dudes. The bag shake addition is fantastic too! Great game design here. Art is really great, and sound fits so well too! Well done guys.
Thanks for jamming with us again. :)
Thanks For Playing and the jam was really fun! Glad you found the bag concept cool!
Appreciate you hosting yet again and thanks for playing… lol most of the comments so far mention the intro in one of the first sentences, glad you enjoyed it
i meannn that starting trailer! the voice acting is so good and the editing is very vibe-y and theme-y.
the UI looks great as well as the art, suuuuper polished.
music is a jammm, rly well mixed and mastered.
and the game design/gameplay iss....PEAK. the game is a blast and the concept works so well!!! i wanted to make an archer and wizard sooo bad but my lil skelley guys were so goood. the programming is so tight too! i kept trying to cheese the dragging mechanic, but i couldn't. the shake bag feature, necromancy book, the helpful guide at the top....so good.
yall killed it. one of the best game concepts i've seen in a while.
P.S. i tapped out at Round 36
Thanks For Playing and its super awesome to hear what we did we well on! Also one of our Artists (Jello) MAde and Voice Acted The Beggining Cutscene :D
Aw thanks dude, glad you enjoyed it
the game was pretty confusing at first peak intro tho and i still dont understand alot of stuff but it was fun playing
Hey thanks for playing and glad you enjoyed the intro! Just curious what weee you confused about? I tried to put a tutorial ingame at the top but I understand if it’s still confusing
Let us know what needs fixing and what you think we should add. We had little time to balance so that is currently the main issue but let us know anything else please!
the only thing that comes to mind is maybe a "super shake bag" optoin every 20 or so rounds. i had like 30+ shake bags left at round 36 but even spamming the shake bag wouldn't clear it enough for me to make what i wanted. rly great game, i actually thought the balancing was great.
I really enjoyed this concept. It was a little confusing at first, but once you understand the mechanics, it's really fun. I would add a feature that lets you restart the bag, which would make gathering items a little less frustrating. Overall, though, I liked it.
Thanks for the rating and feedback! Great idea, as sometimes my bag has gotten way too crowded and overwhelming. (There’s a reason candy crush didn’t have physics lol)
Nice to hear you liked the game, i do understand the overfill issue i did have an idea for soemthing to clear your bag but just did not end up having time
